NHskibm 02-23-2008, 01:28 PM I own a BMW I don't do anything unless the buy-in is at least $500 :shifty jk I only own e30s now and $20 buys TONS of parts so it's too rich for my blood. I'll have to talk to my buddy and find out when his rents are goin away, sometime w/i the next 2-3 weeks, and he's gonna set up a couple tables, and beruit, and guitar hero/rock band. I'll throw a post about that also, but since some of the folk on here have already expressed a dislike of beruit so I'm gonna find a place to do it, tonite or tomorrow, and thread it up. Watch the X-games and Winter Olympics. Let me know if any of the competitors have step-ins. Last I checked Shawn White has straps. :stickoutt Step ins are for the don't know how to snowboard, look at them rollin' down the windows on the 6' kicker, going down the steep trail on their heel side the whole way, look ma I did a 180, can't get out of the pipe, rides across the transitions, full camo wearing d-bag that plagues our fine mountains thinking they know what they are doing when they should just STAY home and get some f'in playstation game to snowboard with instead of wasting their money on the real thing. ;) In all seriousness though: There is a reason that Burton is discontinuing those binding systems and a reason that most rental equipment uses them. I think they are great for a beginner or someone that is more into the social aspect of having a good time with their friends. But once they are off the magic carpet and onto the hill and wanting really get into becoming better and better it is necessary to get straps for better edge control, the ability to be tougher on your equipment, and for the increase in the overall ride on the board. Sure it sucks when there isn't a bench and you are on your butt on the cold ass snow, but you'll be when it's mad icy and you take a wrong turn you'll be happy you have strap-ins. :D pennpen 02-25-2008, 03:55 PM i had to rented a board this season since i grew out of my old one and didn't feel like buying a new one and they had strap bindings and i was fine with it and im not saying im doing crazy shit, im still a beginner kinda, just going to the slopes to hang out with friends not "dude watch me grind this rail" just going up and down, having a good time im sry if u feel that we get in your way mr. awesome, ill stay away from your mountains if all of the riders are pompous assholes like you sound. you started out a beginner, so dont put others down PMPNX5 02-25-2008, 04:14 PM i had to rented a board this season since i grew out of my old one and didn't feel like buying a new one and they had strap bindings and i was fine with it and im not saying im doing crazy shit, im still a beginner kinda, just going to the slopes to hang out with friends not "dude watch me grind this rail" just going up and down, having a good time im sry if u feel that we get in your way mr. awesome, ill stay away from your mountains if all of the riders are pompous assholes like you sound. you started out a beginner, so dont put others down :bawling See, now if you had just learned to drive a standard in the beginning, all of this could've been avoided. ;) ESMcBlurM3 02-25-2008, 04:18 PM dealer's choice? I came off like an ahole too. sorry Exactly, all that clicks are are FASTER to get in and out of. Without getting into it too technically I'll leave it at this: Watch the X-games and Winter Olympics. Let me know if any of the competitors have step-ins. They are for the don't know how to snowboard, look at them rollin' down the windows on the 6' kicker, going down the steep trail on their heel side the whole way, look ma I did a 180, can't get out of the pipe, rides across the transitions, full camo wearing d-bag that plagues our fine mountains thinking they know what they are doing when they should just STAY home and get some f'in playstation game to snowboard with instead of wasting their money on the real thing. There is a REASON that Burton is discontinuing those binding systems and a REASON that most RENTAL equipment uses them. I don't mind a beginner on that shiznit as it makes the first time experience more enjoyable. But once they are off the magic carpet and onto the hill and wanting to buy their own stuff, please for the sake of the sport, please get some real equipment. I don't know you and the last thing I need to do is make an enemy on here but that reply was a little much. I'd bet if you were half as good as you lead us to believe in your post then you wouldn't be cutting people down like that. Any pro rider that I know would do nothing but encourage the sport and be positive. With that said, Pennpen, the difference between click ins and strap ins is edge control. By anchoring down your toes you can lift them up to pull up the toeside up while pressing the heel side down. You truly do get far superior control with strap in bindings. Also - something to note is that 99% of people on the hill (ski or ride) have ill-fitting equipment, including boots, which if not fitted properly are far worse than a properly fitted click in boot. Click in boots tend to be harder and more ridgid because they need to transfer through one point, the much smaller click in binding while strap in boots tend to be (also more comfortable) softer and less rigid because the boot does less and the binding does more. Some might equate click-ins as being beginner because one board can fit a whole range of boots making it easier to have a rental inventory, but because they ice up and have more moving parts, they also fail at a higher rate than traditional bindings (not including busted straps). Learn how to ride and enjoy yourself. When you are ready to upgrade or wear through your boots then I would suggest looking at a strap in binding only because your riding will probably improve with a better binding. Also make sure you get your boots properly fitted because without properly fitted boots you are wasting your time. I have no idea how to fit sboard boots but if you have the money, green mountain orthotics @ Stratton is by far the best on the east coast. What about that poker? or have i gotten myself uninvited???:help FredK 02-25-2008, 08:12 PM I hate poker. Too much standard deviation. :D Anyway, I think we should just all chill out. I'm re-reading and yup, I'm an asshole. Sorry about that. Seriously though, whatever you would like to use on the mountain is just fine. As you improve your skills you'll undoubtedly move back to strap in bindings for the better control and overall ride that they offer. And I haven't snowboarded in QUITE some time. Just a two planker now that prefers to live in the steeps, trees, and bumps. And I'm not that good. If I was good I wouldn't have needed the two shoulder surgeries and one knee surgery (march 31) now would I?
