View Full Version : 02 BMW m3 vs. 0? CLK 55 AMG
mrm3man 02-21-2008, 02:05 PM i read online that the amg's seperate power depending on the year so the amg 55 i was racing is either 350+ to 469 hp. somewhere between those lines.
i was at a red light solo about to go smoke some good purple. and a mercedes clk busted a beezy and i noticed that he glared at me so i was like ok. so after he busted a b my light went green i didnt go for it right there i waited til the next light where it would be even. so i pulled up near his back window . i'm like 22 and this dude was like 35's+ . in my mind i knew it was on so as soon as the light turns green we both roll a little bit and VROOOOMMM it was on. pretty much i'm giving him half a car. and we both smashed down capitol expressway/tully towards quimby and i'm like "fuck mercedes man its m power" the whole time we were at the same distance at the very most he moved on me about a foot to 2 at most. pretty much from 0-90 with no take off just a little. i cut down at 80 something. and was amazed that we were right next to each other pretty much. i thought i would scorch him hahaha a strecth down later i wanted to do a 40-50 roll but he just smiled and gave me the handgun hahahaha
blackbenzz 02-21-2008, 02:11 PM CLK55's were never supercharged and they were mid 300's hp from the factory.
"fuck mercedes man its m power" You change your mind now?
gti1689 02-21-2008, 03:16 PM a clk55 is faster than an m3.

pretty even considering the inline6 and v8 difference. but m3 would take it out in freeway

go try racing one on the highway. it only gets worse as speeds increase and the clks weigh disadvantage becomes less of a factor. those v8's are very good top end.
a while back there was a trend where every m3 owner thought they were faster than the c55/clk55's. too bad it turned out they weren't.
189 MPH (delimited)
lol, do you really think an m3 can do 189 delimited? i can see it maybe hitting 189 in terms of maxing out gearing, but actually going that speed is...unrealistic.
EVILZ33 02-21-2008, 05:09 PM i raced one with my Z when it was n/a it was a half decent race. he definitly beat me. we went from 0-100 he had me by about a car.....car and a hlaf. would love to see the out come now.

That's one SWEET car....
bud4ya 02-21-2008, 08:03 PM How where you going to scorch him from 50 + when you could not beat him up to 80? As speeds would of increased the the more you would of drop back (V8). I almost bought an E46 M3 but after driving the C32 AMG it was quicker than the M3. But go into the corners and the M will over shine over the MB.

dinans3m3 02-21-2008, 08:26 PM i remember running with an 01CLK55 with my 01M5 several years ago when both cars first came out. I couldnt break away from him on the straights. Pretty much even. Off the line the AMG was faster. The funny thing was in the M5 i didnt have such an issue shaking off the E55 (nonSC). Mercedes has come a long way. Although the numbers are not impressive as far as 1/4 in relation to the monster tq and hp offered they are way underestimated.

CLK55 Standing 1/4-mile: 13.2 sec @ 107 mph
e46 M3 1/4 Mile - 13.1@105 MPH
The slower ET with a higher trap speed shows you that the car is more sluggish from a dig, however is faster down the stretch.
If you raced the CLK on a highway, it [i]should]/i] get ugly for you.

its "N" power.
Nik1703 02-21-2008, 09:33 PM do not underestimate mercedes AMG. They are equally if not more refined then BMW's.
Nik1703 02-21-2008, 09:39 PM +1 on bustin that beezy

1/4 under different weather conditions and on different tracks mean squat. For an equal comparison you would have to run both cars on that given day so the few mph and .1 sec difference doesnt account for anything. Im not going against BMW but giving credit where it is due. i would rather own the BMW but the AMG Mercs are indeed powerful.

I know you need same tracks, prep, weather conditions, etc (same with dyno comparisons) was using his own numbers as examples.
I however was stating that the CLK would pull on the m3 as speeds increase, because even though it was said to be .1 second slower, it trapped 2 mph quicker, showing it was pulling stronger towards the end.
blackbenzz 02-22-2008, 04:08 PM That's one SWEET car....
Thanks!
Curb weight: 3808 lb
What year is this info for? I could have sworn my car was lighter than that.
brentxzi 02-22-2008, 04:18 PM Amg's are nothing to bash on. Even the 550's are fast as hell.
rad750 02-22-2008, 11:54 PM The 02 E46 M3 owners manual says the car's weight is 3415lbs with a full tank of fuel and driver. The numbers for the weight of both cars may not be measured the same way, which may mean the M3 is significantly lighter than the CLK.
Old guy question: What is "bustin a beezy?"
fusionchicken 02-23-2008, 06:43 AM yep.....driven an sl55 and e63 before, them things move the hell out. esp. the 55.......talk about instant torque, anywhere, EVERYWHERE

Was curious myself. :confused
