I wonder how one makes their own guage kit.

start with a computer representation of sorts - adobe illustrator / cad / photoshop / whatever, then find someone to print it onto the right material, with some cutting services included.

..those are all tools of an Architect for example.. (ask me how I know...)

any reprographic company should be able to print on thicker material - just be prepared to spend a little bit of money...

It's a glitch that hasn't been over come yet to my knowledge. I think its hilarious and actually kinda cool.

I had my license taken away in France (only effective in france) for doing 130mph in a 130kph highway.

My understanding is that if you have the BMW MODIC, you should be able to "switch" the KPH for MPH on the display...

The issue is not the physical parts as yes, thats exactly the trans (S6S 420G) from an M5 that's going in. It's the reprogramming of what the car sees and how it acts with different parts. The info I gave above is directly from a client of Brett's that did the 6spd conversion on his 840, along with two others. Brett may possibly be doing the electronics (we've spoken about it) unless I can find another avenue as he is, with all due respect for his knowledge and ability, extremely expensive.

What do you mean by reversing the data points?

I should have said the software reverses the data inputs for the OBC using UK files. Apparently its been tried by Koala.

I use Babelfish to translate, It's free, But first be sure they except Paypal for payment, Don't do a money transfer/Western union etc... It's a guarantee to get burned, Like i did!

*What Eights said* , Plus.....The page layout is the same as here so that part you can usually tell whats up more or less. Where it normally says SHIPS TO: look for 'weltweit' which means 'worldwide'. The germans are much more bi-lingual than we are. I'm 99.99999997% sure she can build just about anything for a car. I can ask.

She recently built a set from real Carbon fiber on her 8er with custom lighting :eyecrazy said it took a while but it truly looks amazing from what Ive seen so far.

I want the design to be the same as stock for the mph, but M series style for the inner kmph ring, as well as the light grey M background. Also, no 55mph dot. I will upload a picture of a m cluster to illustrate what I mean.

Here is the OE M cluster design. Again I like the background color on white lettering, and want a similar 'dot-dash' design for the kmph inner speedo ring, while retaining the OE E31 double line design for the outer ring, tach, fuel, and temp gauges. Also, removing the 55mph dot.

I just copied all of that info. and sent another email.

I'll be around the house all night watching the NBA games :cool and should have a response fairly soon.

I want it just like yours!!!!! Except for an 840. I do have a stupid little question though, are 850-850CSi instrument clusters compatible with the 840? I cannot tell you how childishly excited I am :buttrock.

I kept watching ebay for any ///M clusters that came up for sale that I could pull it from. I got one for a touch over a $100. I know someone on this side is selling a cluster for like 50 bucks with OE red needles...Here is the link: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=963882. I am not sure any of these needles will work in a E31 cluster mind you, but they are all OE VDO, so I assume they should...

Sorry, I missed that. 840s and 850s have the exact same cluster. 850CSi's have red needles and no double line bars. I am pretty sure all interchange just fine.

Installed CSi guages a long time ago in both my 91's. My #1 car has a US spec cluster and #2 car has Euro CSi cluster. Easy swap. Remove old guages, install replacement guages. Use original cluster.

Interesting. Care to ellaborate? My 840ci has the same cluster with 180mph max number and 200 max marking.

well, Aura I believe you have a '97? The only guess I have is that '95 models and before had the 0-170 speedo. I'm thinking it should be a straight swap, though...

all US speedos have the 180 marking. The guages are an easy swap. Remove the cluster, undo the black plastic latch at the top (like a luggage clasp), swing the front of the cluster forward. You will see the backs of all the gauges (one fuel, speedo/tach, and water temp), on each side of those guages you will see a red or orange "latch", depress and pull the guage back. Reassembly is the reverse.
Quite simple....

If the spacing is the same (ie same change in speed per degree of the speedo) it just swap on without hassle.

Did the just truncate the top speed, or is it the same length with wider spacing between the marked speeds?

PS I am still very excited about the custom gauge set!

I'll be doing a custom sound system (with McIntosh bits), exhaust is coming up, I'm unable to find a full set of staggered Style 65 wheels, so now I'm looking at a couple alternatives (WHICH I HATE DOING), and actually I have a lot of other stuff too that's a bit embarassing considering how much I have left... sigh.
