All,

I have been a fan of the board for a number of months as I have tried to get up to speed on the 8 series. I love the design and would love to own. I have read all the threads talking about what to do and not to do when in the market. I was just curious if you all would be willing to take a peak and let me know your thoughts. This dealer has all the service records available and an full inspection would be required on my part. Only concern I have is this is I would be the 4th owner since 1997. Thanks in advance for your consideration. ..

I'm not the 2nd owner or the 3rd on mine. It hasn't given me any problems and all I know is that it's in tender lovin' hands now.

Bladeium,
I too am a new member, and have used the experience of members to survey and service a 97 850Ci......
From what I can see....the cost of that car is high, based on what is out there and what the members believe they are going for.
There are a few 97's available now, one in texas, and shortly the one I'm working on. Both are less than that car.....mileage on mine is 104K, and one in Texas is approx 72K, @ apporox $22-23K
One note of mine is where is the car from......meaning did it live it's whole life on the east coast.....does it have rust.....
they can do that just by being parked near the Ocean....

If you're interested in a west coast car, second owner, e-mail me....I send a pic.

For instance, I'll definitely pass on a car from Brooklyn NY.

Personally I like So Cal, Texas and Florida just off-hand. Another I'd pass on would be Louisiana... and a bunch of others. Don't want em wet, salted or cooked.

I got mine as the 2nd owner from a Pennsylvania original owner. It's a 1996 with 74k miles but I did not pay anywhere near 28,000 for it.

Take it to Curry's Auto in Chantilly for a PPI, they work on a lot of eights, including mine, in the area.

Yes, Brooklyn or Manhattan or any borough would be suspect due to the usually congested driving conditions therin, but outside of that is fine.

For a higher owner count car like the one in question, DC is very transient, so the question would be if the car has moved around a lot geographically. If not, could just be the nature of the every 4 year turnover of staffers and lobbyists, especially the latter.

Thanks for the response. I used to take my 540 to Curry's, they did good work for me. Live in Sterling VA so only about 10 minutes away. The car in question came from Ohio. What do you think a fair price for this one would be?

Seeing as mine is only about a hundred less from you on the VIN, and with less miles, it would really depend on the PPI results. 19-22/23 would be my target range, unless it is somehow stellar. All depends on the condition, especially the condition of the plastics in the engine area.

Also, at 80k plus, you'd expect preventative stuff like Cooling system (hoses radiator, etc.) & tranny fluid to have been replaced. If so, maybe it's built into the price...if not.....get ready!

I would be interested in finding out if there are many 8 owners in the Northern Virginia area (other than Arlington8). Curious if there are any clubs local or enthusiasts who may be willing to assist me in my search? I have loved the car from a distance for far to long, it is time for my to join the ranks of owners. I would be willing to pay you for your time just to pick your brain and get some assistance so I don't get burned. Thanks in advance.

Eights in the DC metro are plentiful. Most seem to be over in Montgomery County. Faisal is the most prolific, having modified his eight to a one of kind 860, and being very active in the community. I'm sure he'll respond shortly. Many are over @ the roadfly forum as well.

There are some well taken care 850's on the market. I have one and so does SCC, both from Texas. I just sold one and I am moving the second one as well :-) This time I am going after a REAL exotic 850 :-) I know I am crazy.....

Blade, go to Jim Gavrity's e31partsdotcom site and click the 91 in the middle of the page. That can be gotten for less than 13k and its a 6spd. IMO would put you ahead of the game compared to your original linked car price.

Are there any other owners close to central PA. I'm so lonely here compared to the metros.

Let see if I understand correctly, the ocean on the west coast or in texas does not rust car, but it does on the east coast. You must be joking. Rust is associated with a very very negligent owner who does not take care of his car , beside how many 8 serie owners drive their car in the winter, when it snow I sure dont, and I never saw one with snow on the ground here in the northeast. If you live in the south I can see where you would drive it year round. But please do not say if it live it's all life in the east coast they have rust, "they can do that just by being parked near the Ocean...." JMO
