NGK is OEM, but Bosch also works well. I've tried both and have been happy.

I might have found myself a new supplier.

Trust isn't the issue, those are more expensive than AutoHaus -- http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=q21djo55r5vn2uq1ezfqst55&makeid=800003@BMW&modelid=1303254@740I&year=1998&cid=25@Ignition%20Parts&gid=7212@Spark%20Plug

For Bosch +4
eBay: $59.95
AutoHaus: $43.44

Gotcha. I was looking at the list price.

What would be the better choice? Bosch or NGK? Or is this just preference?

The Bosch or NGK equivalent from AutoZone and the like work great and usually are a great buy. Also depends on your car's build date...not all M62/M62TU V8s use the same spark plug! The V8s built before 7/97 use a standard type plug...the ones built between 7/97-9/98 use another type plug....and the V8s built from 9/97-up can use even another "high power" spark plug.

If you go to any of the online part databases (click link below)...you can get the BMW part nbrs for these 3 different spark plugs...then when you go to the online vendors, or the local car part stores...you can check for the aftermarket equivalent:

So can we still use a Platinum high powered plug in a pre 97 build date without a problem?

If you do a search you'll probably find that its overkill on the early V8s ( or maybe not) that don't require the high power plugs. The M62 engine is pretty much "optimized" (not totally...but pretty much)...and paying $20 for a plug that doesn't produce anything more than the $7 plug...you can always brag about how much you paid for your plugs. :stickoutt

Its almost like those that have the old M30 engine that was engineered to run on 87 AKI....but you still have many of those BMW owners who confess to putting "nothing but the best" (91/93 AKI) in their Bimmer. :lol
