View Full Version : 99 M Coupe VS Hemi Grand Cherokee
Zeptepi 02-18-2008, 10:47 PM Sitting at a light in Conshohoken, in the left lane, a Hemi Cherokee pulled up next to me. It being a slight hill and cars being parked on the inside right made for some difficult viewing for him. Many side streets.
As the time for change approaches the guy revs his engine hard, so do I. He's an auto and he stages, the truck really hunkers down. (I'm impressed) I rev hard to indicate it is on, as I do so I notice a cop car pull up on the first side street.
The hemi revs and holds, so do I. The light goes green, he floors it and I do nothing, just sit there and watch. As he accelerates up to the first side street he is already putting his flashers on (as would I, I just smoked you kid) and low and behold the red, white and blues go on and popo pulls the cherokee over.
I set off from the light as the cop pulls out of the side street and gently roll past the cherokee laughing my ass off.
Now that is a true kill!!:devillook
bypass911 02-18-2008, 10:50 PM LOL, I had the happen once too.
anpmech 02-19-2008, 12:13 AM That's a rule....Look before you leap... ALWAYS!!!!!!!!! Learned that in my Grabber Green 69 Mach 1..
giterdone 02-19-2008, 11:42 AM Very funny. I'd crack up i were in your shoes.
However, if i saw the cop, I would've tried to alert the jeep before we went. I wouldn't feel right coaxing somebody into the faux race just to watch them get pulled.

He was all for it and to be honest I wasn't (I expected him to beat me) but by no streatch of the imagination do I condone street racing.
You want to race me call me out and we'll go, do it on the street and face the consequences like a man. Dimeing out or not!!
We all should accept the facts of life. I saw, he didn't.

It is just like hte people who notice a cop, and will give those they drive by a quick flash of the lights, to let them know a cop is coming.
Dont rev back, goading him to race; as you sit there and see a cop. I'd be like :nono and point towards the cop.
If you didn't want to race, just don't rev loudly implying that you did. Simple as that.
I mean it is your choice, and I'm not trying to change that. Just stating my views differ from yours.
ChaseBimmer 02-19-2008, 04:04 PM Your a dick.
abradic 02-19-2008, 08:38 PM You should have put your hazards on when you passed him!

I do agree with this post, and I have messed around with people, and a couple times ahead I would notice a cop and look over with a twirl motion to the other driver to let them know. Fun is fun, no need for tickets. Now, if it's in traffic and this person is being stupid weaving, I won't engage, and I won't caution their stupidity.
BEHMER 02-19-2008, 08:47 PM wow!! you are a bitch

Remonster 02-20-2008, 02:23 AM Haha few days ago me and a friend were next to each other at a light ready to go, I saw a cop and I looked over and pointed to the cop.
Luckily the left turn lane (which the cop was in) got a green light and as soon as he was gone I looked back over and gave my friend the thumbs up. Turns out even though I had tried to warn him he didn't notice the cop and had this "Oh shitttt" look on his face. :P
Even funnier was when I launched my car hard and was way in front and forgot I was following him to his house and I had no idea where it was, I look in my mirror and saw him take a right turn. D'oh!

i lol at you fool haha :p
agmobb 02-20-2008, 07:25 AM I hate tickets. Therefore I would not wish them on anybody. Also, why rev if you didn't wanna race?
dophineh 02-20-2008, 12:42 PM No law against accelerating. How far up was the first side street? Maybe he wasn't quite speeding yet.
I ALWAYS alert other drivers about cops.
Why was it harder for him to see the side streets than for you? Cause he was in the right lane? He is several feet higher than you, so I would think that would help...

I forget what it is, but one time a buddy and I were having a debate about different laws around racing. I asked a cop who was at the same restaurant. He said there actually was something involving taking off aggressively. I forget what it was, and it might have to involve spinning tires, however he didn't make it sound like it. Was something generic like aggressive acceleration.
Also if you break traction, you can get "Failure to maintain proper control of vehicle".
However, if nothing else, the cop might have pulled the jeep over for suspicion. He might not have had anything really to pull him over for, but the fact he saw two vehicles reving loudly at each other, then one bolt away from the light (not to mention it is a vehicle equipped to 'race'), he figured he might be able to get him for something. He very well could have let him off with a warning and told him to watch his speed, etc.
dophineh 02-20-2008, 04:43 PM Yeah technically it can be reckless driving. But most cops aren't going write tickets for that. I got a warning once for peeling out from a gas station.

Here in hawaii hat jeep would have gotton
-failure to maintain proper control
-exhibition of speed-(prolly the one you were thinking)
-reckless driving.
They hate street racers here. godd thing i have an auto now.
funny thing is i never get pulled over when im driving an auto, but always get pulled over driving stick.

Street side parking on the right side, we are facing up hill with the crest a little past the side street (usual block distance). This would have given him an inconvenient angle for sight but maybe not impossible. I don't doubt that the cop pulled him because he launched up the street screaming, I also don't doubt that he got little more than a warning if anything.(I didn't stick around to find out and knowing PA cops it would have taken him 45 minutes to process the guy.)
As for those that suggested I wave him off, the guy sits considerably higher than me creating situational awareness issues (I can't see him and he can't see me.)
Why did I rev? Because there is nothing better than watching someone launch even if I don't!!
Oh and for those that think I'm a Dick, it's one thing to do a drag on a fairly deserted street late at night and another on the main drag in a busy town at 9pm at night with a bar in the half block behind you. Fun and games aside we can and often do create dangerous scenarios, for which we sometimes must take the rap!
