This is my first post here. So I apologize if this has been discussed before.

All my life, I have been changing brake pads on my (non BMW) cars. My 2004 645ci conv. needs a brake job badly and I was wondering if changing the pads on it is similar to all other cars. The excess sensory electronics on this car worries me a little; I feel that there may be something different there. Has anyone done this? In particular, I like to know:
- any do's and don't during the process?
- any special tools (over and beyond usual garage tools) needed?
- do you use BMW's or third party pads?

Thanks in advance,
Brad

Not that big of a deal, but I would recommend changing the rotors too. BMW rotors are soft and wear just like the pads. The rear rotors don't wear as much as the fronts do, so you might be able to get away with pads only. You will definately have to replace the pad wear sensor too.

thanks for the reply. Do you buy BMW parts or third party brakes/rotors are OK?

my opinion, is that I would only use BMW parts. yeah, they may be costly, but if you want to keep your car stopping as well as it does, then it pays to have the good stuff.
