View Full Version : Best Rims For A Silver 5er?
bimmerE36freak 02-17-2008, 10:53 PM I am looking to change my rims out from OE Style 5s to something different. Opinions with pictures please! Looking for 18s or 19s, no bigger. My car has Angel Eyes, HIDs, 20% tints all around, and a drop on H&R springs, just to give you an idea of what it looks like. Let's see em'!
BMWUGADAWG 02-17-2008, 10:57 PM can't go wrong with 18" m-pars. of course i am biased.....

BMWUGADAWG 02-17-2008, 11:04 PM here is a pic. if mine didn't come with the 18s i would go 19s.....you can get reps for a good price.

Millenium E39 02-17-2008, 11:04 PM Style 5's. But since you have em, and have been trying to find replacements, I's say,

karlw 02-17-2008, 11:09 PM I have OEM 17" style 42s on my 01 530 Sport and I think they look great (but hey, I'm biased!) I think the M Pars look pretty hot, 19" would be perfect for those.
42s on my car:

These are 17", I'm going with 18" soon unless some nice deal comes along
Seriously I wouldn't mess with the 5s.
I have has m5 reps and mpars and would have much rather had style 5s over both. They are class act wheels.
Fairly light, well built, good lip, and good looking. Spend the money on something else.

bimmerE36freak 02-18-2008, 01:46 AM wow last ones are hot. i really like my style 5's but i want something aftermarket in black with a polished lip. i loved my ADR M-Sports in 18x8.5 in black/polished lip, but for now they sit in my garage because they were off my E36 and have too high of an offset and aren't staggered. So far I'm thinking of the following: staggered 18" M-pars, Miro M6 reps, possibly CSL reps, or (what i really want but couldnt afford) OZ Gailieo IIIs (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=GA82560B25XLB&wheelMake=O.Z.&wheelModel=Galileo+III&wheelFinish=Black+w%2FPolished+Lip&showRear=no&autoMake=BMW&autoModel=528i&autoYear=1997&autoModClar=&filterSize=All&filterFinish=All&filterSpecial=false&filterBrand=All&filterNew=All&sort=Brand) in black/polished. Anything that resembles the galileo but cheaper?

every car on the road doesnt have a lip... and with our german cars we can put on insane lips... so why not?
all the japs want lips but can't have em...

That is true due to the german offsets. But it doesnt hurt to have a little variety especially knowing you can go back to big lips.
Jo@EuroDyne 02-18-2008, 03:36 PM or a cheaper alternative is get spacers to use the wheels u got off the e36 and have them machine to a 74.1 hub bore...
bimmerE36freak 02-18-2008, 03:51 PM where would i get the hub bored at? the offset is 35mm, what size spacers would I need?
bimmerE36freak 02-18-2008, 10:52 PM bump?
boomshakalaka 02-19-2008, 12:44 AM silver with polished lip could look so sick. Not sure if there would be enough contrast though.
btw, that car with the black roof is so sick, I almost wish my 540 wasnt black so that I could paint my roof black...
Black528i 02-19-2008, 09:52 AM where would i get the hub bored at? the offset is 35mm, what size spacers would I need?
Call Rogue Engineering. You'd probably want a minimum of a 15mm spacer. Theirs come with the lug nuts and are hubcentric.
bimmerZ5 02-19-2008, 09:58 AM i agree with the style 42 composite wheels. i have them, they are gorgeous... but they are the biggest pain to clean. so, if you go with them, i suggest dustless brake pads like Akebono or something similar.
another style i like are the SSR GT3s:

Love that look!
Edgy99 02-19-2008, 01:25 PM I really like the look of my stock 42s, but the PO really neglected. I got them reconditioned but can't bring them all the way back w/o full re-lathe treatment. Going to keep them as snows, and get something new this spring.
What's the best vendor for M-par replicas?
