View Full Version : White E36 M3 on rt 70E maryland this afternoon
locam 02-17-2008, 09:46 PM Hey all Evo owner here,
Not trolling...
I had an encounter with a really fast White E36 M3 this afternoon, on Maryland rt 70 east around4:00-4:15 on February 17th. We ran twice, and then you exited to Security Blvd, while I got onto 695. I was curious to what you have done, you are really fast. The runs were great and I wanted to give you a thumbs up.
Take care and hope to hear from you

locam 02-18-2008, 10:07 AM Guess he is not a member here...too bad, was hoping to know what the guy had done. I am pushing over 440AWHP, thats why I was wondering what all he had done to his car.
So then a question to you all...what would one of you need to have done to run with a 440whp Evo on the Highway? I assume that he was boosted in some form, I didnt see a FMIC so I may be stupid to assume that he was supercharged.
Either way I was really surprised at the fact the he keptt up. I had him by about a car or so the first run, then he had me by about a quarter panel the second run.

It'll take at least the same amount of HP on E36 M3 to keep up with the 440awhp evo. I think they have SC stages, and stage 1 doesn't have an intercooler. But I doubt it could hang with you, let alone -pull on u by half a fender with stage 1. Idk, Ill take a wild guess and say he was TT-ed, but then again I dont understand the lack of the intercooler. Maybe M3 boys will chime in
bigbeansm3 02-18-2008, 11:23 AM If he had serious weight reduction, he could have been as light as 2500-2600lbs. Im not a BMW forced induction expert by any means, but i would assume it is possible to make 350-375whp on a non-intercooled system, which is what it would take a car of that weight to stay with your 3100lb evo.
Any possibility of a hidden intercooler, maybe painted dark and put behind race mesh?
Also, tuning companies have gotten 375whp out an N/A s54 engine (VAC Motorsports), and i would assume the s52 (which is in the car you raced) would be close to the same capability if you were crazy enough to invest the ridiculous amount of money it would take to get these numbers. The problem with this is, for that amount of money you can go forced induction and go a whole lot faster, so not many people seem to build N/A motors to the level we are talking about here.
BMWManiac 02-18-2008, 11:39 AM No one that i know of runs a turbo without an intercooler. I would also guess that the intercooler was either painted black or just behind some mesh...to keep up with the torque though, they would have to been turbo'd
CVGTURBO86 02-18-2008, 02:22 PM I guess no one else thinks it was Steve N(Bsaint)?

While his car is fast, especially for an NA car, he's not going to be anywhere near a 440whp Evo. Not to mention he lives in Penn, very far from where this race took place.
I am guessing you ran one of the ICS Turbo cars- I know there is a guy with a white E36 that lives in Columbia/Elkridge area that has an ICS car, but I don't know details. I know because I ran into once with my car, but we didn't have a chance to run for traffic reasons.
Generally speaking, ICS cars all have a minimum of 500HP.
Did he beat you?
Also, there is a twin turbo red E36 around the area as well. I would stay away him and he's closing in on 800HP last I heard.
locam 02-18-2008, 07:35 PM To All,
Thanks for the replies. To answer some of the questions. There is always a chance that he did have an FMIC, and it was painted black. I didnt see one when he was coming up on me...however, it was cloudy, so there is a chance.
When we were next to each other I didnt hear anything that sounded forced induction to me...however I was also open wastegate at that point so hearing anything other than a 747 about to land on me is a challenge.
V.Coronet, I would have to say that we were dead even. The first run was from about 60, and I pulled him by around 1 car and a half, maybe two at the most. Second run he asked me to slow it down a bit so we dropped to about 40, once we took off he instantly pulled about a car on me, by the time I hit the top of the gear I started in he had about a bumper on me, and it stayed that way till the top of 5th, about 135-140mph. Either way it goes, he had a LOT more than I expected. I was soo happy because I don't get many races in my area. The ones that I am lucky enough to get are almost always against some riced out civic or cavalier.

damnboy37 02-18-2008, 10:50 PM Damn, all this talk about FI makes me want to go that route.
What about an LS2 swap?

That raises an interesting point...i know you said you couldn't hear a whole lot, but could you tell if it sounded I-6 or V-8?

Good morning all,
It didn't sound like American muscle in there. The upper RPM range from what I could hear def had a "EURO" note to it, so I would say it sounded I-6 to me.
thanks,

Naaaaaah, you don't want one of those crappy LS2s.:D
Sounds like a good fun race OP, I'd like to get some action around here. Too many cops in NoVA though.:nono

Armo95 02-19-2008, 12:39 PM You ran Tommy. I don't know him on a personal level, but know of him.
He made 407rwhp/411rwtq. His car is not an ICS-built car.
It's an AA StageII turbo with some supporting mods. It's a fast car.
However, there is an ICS car in Ellicott City. It's a black E36 M3 with a LTW wing. I believe he made somewhere in the area of ~630rwhp. I don't know him either, but he dyno'd at my buddy's shop.
locam 02-19-2008, 01:50 PM Armo95,
Thanks for the response. I'm not doubting you at all, just curious as to how you can confirm who it was? If this is the same person I am curious if he had any weight reduction as well as all the work?
Is Tommy a black guy?

:dunno I have never met him. And I don't know about the weight reduction, either, I just know what he made at the dyno and he has a white E36.
I believe there is a meet coming up in March. If you want, I can PM you when I know the date for sure and you can swing by. All the turbo E36 M3's come out and I'm sure he'll be there.

Did the guy have a roll cage and black wheels? If so, that's the same car I'm thinking of and it's not an M3. It's a 328 chassis with an S52 and turbo. I know this because he had body work done at my uncle's shop about a year ago- my uncle told me about the car.

V.Coronet,
I did not see a roll cage, and this guy looked to be on stock wheels " brushed Aluminum".

Absolutely not. It's an enthusiast meet, not make-specific. We have everything from turbo Civics to supercharged Vipers to turbo BMW's and so on. Sometimes we go on cruises, too, depending on weather and how many people show up.
I'll let you know once I get details (from a non-BMW guy).

Last time it was in Germantown but I think this time they were talking Rockville or roundabouts. It's a bit of a drive for me, but it'll be well worth it.
I'm waiting to hear back from one of the guy's I know with a supercharged C5.
I'll let you know,too.

Did you happen to run a silver sti in E.C a while back? It was dead heat and I was always wondered what the evo mod's were. Anyway, I commute to columbia area, so keep a look out for silver sti w/ ssr's or silver e60 m5.
locam 02-20-2008, 03:32 PM I cant say that I remember that. I am getting old, and my memory was the first thing that left...lol. Kids will also do that to you. I will be sure to keep an eye out for you, and I will be sure to give a wave.

Need to travel out to Loudoun (like Loudoun Cty Pkwy just north of redskins park)....never see cops there and a few nice straightways for running
