I have never had a convertible. But yeah. I have been looking here and they are just beautiful.... I really like that yellow one in the beginning of the pic thread.. and yeah.. I'm sure they wont be quiet but is it just annoying with the top up? Also would leaking be a problem? thanks. Just getting some ideas here...:help

Pretty Quite. BMW Convertible = Full Headliner, noise reduction lining, top quality heavy gauge canvas top. All of this equals a pretty quiet convertible.

I agree. It's not noisy at all.

Co-mon guys................I used to have the saloon (sedan) and that was much much quieter than the vert. But you get used to it....and it's worth it.

I don't even noticed the road noise at all on streets. On the freeway I only barely notice it on speeds over 80 mph and that's if I'm REALLY listening for it.

Maybe I've grown used to it, but I really don't notice a difference between my vert and my friends m3 coupe at all road noise wise.

Go to the bmw dealership and test drive one. I'm sure they have an older used vert.

It is noisier. How much I have not a clue. But as someone said it's worth it. I own two.

If you can't take the noise get a hard top for winter.

Today's the first day I've noticed unacceptable road noise in the 'vert.

Then again, the crosswinds on the Interstate were pushing the car around, so that may have played a part.

what noise? :)

I have a little wind between the header and windshield...should be a seal issue

i drive pretty fast on the freeways, and its really loud over 75 mph with the top up. the wind doesn't flow over the canvas very smoothely.

you kind of get used to it after a while, but then if you get into a non-convertible, it seems twice as loud when you go back to the convertible.

leaking is a problem on a lot of these cars, but there are quite a few solutions.

Road noise is a dream in these cars....it's the darn wind noise that's annoying. Oh, and don't jump out of your seats when passing a semi, it's just its wheels you are hearing, not a jet heading straight for you.

My friend's S2000 is much louder than my 3 is with the top up.

I have a Coupe and a Vert, cant say i notice any noise difference really!
As for leaking, I had a leak for months coming from the drivers side pilla, tried all sorts of Sealant and stuff, tried tightening the clips for the roof, turned out the roof just needed painting with Renovo waterproofer - Problem solved :)

These cars aren't water tight, and if you're concerned about road noise, a vert might not be for you. That said, these cars are great all things considered, but they definitely aren't roofed coupes or sedans.

I'd have to agree. If you want a vert then you have to make some compromises, but they are well worth it!!

For me if I have some solt of sporty car must be a Convertible,
as for the noise, me I love it, nothing like the sound of the engine and wind as as you cruise down the road. Also its a reason to have your music a little bit louder!

I have no intrusive wind noise whatsoever, nor have I ever had any issues with leaks. My car is the first year of the E36 Convertible, it has the original Top and Rear Window (all are still in perfect condition) and it has over 160,000 miles on it. If you treat them well, they will last and last!!

The only wind noise I get often is when some woman gets out next to my bimmer in a car park...from a muddy 4X4 with dents in it and a few brats with shopping trolleys :mad :bigun2...plenty of wind then and it smells bad

Seriously with the roof up I am impressed with the noise levels in my 325 vert, top down is great up to about 60-70mph with the windows all down..it then starts to get a little noisy and buffeting with wind. Put the windows up at that speed and not to bad up to 100 mph :buttrockafter that speed you either need a good wind defender , or new wig!:laugh

I will say it is not as a coupe but I will say this is my 2nd vert (the first one was a chevy Z24) and this one is a lot quieter then that car was. The hardtop quites the car down more and is great in the winter time. For me my car is kinda my toy I when i do drive it in winter the hardtop is on, and during the summer most of the time i have to top down. Owning one is the best but some times there are small things that you learn to deal with on them!

Wind noise is definately more than a sedan with the top up. I start getting wind noise above 50 mph. Top down, most of the noise comes from other cars. That can be anoying if you have a lot of traffic.

the noise does get kinda bad around 130mph but if you turn the music up loud enough you wont even notice!
