When I pulled this transmission one of the tabs that held the shift linkage to the transmission was accidentally damaged so I paid a reputable shop to cut off and repair the damaged area. The pictures below show the peice that I had repaired. The new piece is actually stronger than the original cast. I originally bought this for my M50 swap but have decided to build a 2.8L M20 instead. I have a receipt from the shop that repaired the tab that I will include for proper documentation. The selector shaft seal was also replaced after the repair was made.

How much of a difference would the zf trans make between a stock 323i trans? Which I think is the getrag.

I really boils down to the amount of power each one can handle reliably. The Getrag 250 is known to grenade on engines running slightly above stock HP. The ZF transmission can hold up to much more (600-700hp). If you pickup a Getrag and then a ZF you can definately tell which one has much beefier gears.

The gear ratio is a little closer IIRC bu if you plan on keeping your 323i stock then a Getrag is really all you need.

what do you say so far as the working condition of either of the getrag transmissions? anything you would do to them before installing?

Both Getrag transmissions are fine to install as they are though if you are OCD like me you can always replaced the selector shaft, input shaft, and output shaft seals for good measure.

UPDATE: 1 Getrag 250 is SOLD
