Hey guys,I have an E34 540i and as of lately there seems to be a nasty tapping noise one the right side of the engine.Someone told us it could be a fuel injector that's clogged and a few other guys said it could be an Hydraulic lifter!Anyone else experience this problem?Any advice concerning this is much appreciated

m60's are known for lifter tap...
change your oil, make sure its the right weight for the season and it should go away...

if everything checks out, make sure you inspect your oil pump bolts, they have a tendancy to walk out and drop into the oil pan.

Thanks for the reply,I did however find 3 of the bolts from the oil pump laying in the oil pan.
I got all that sorted and thought it would be sorted, noise was still there. What oil do you guys recommend?

Lots of discussion about oil here. Here's one of the threads. Suffice to say you need a heavy weight oil. (20w 50) or so that meets BMW spec. Read on friend
