View Full Version : SC'ed Bmw 540i Vs. SRT8 Charger w/predator and CAI
Flexall 02-15-2008, 11:46 PM Well guys..... here I am. I finally hooked up with my friend tonight who has a black SRT8 Charger with predator ecu programming and CAI. We ran four times from 60ish to low 100+ speeds. This is what happened. From go he pulled slightly, like about a half of a car. I pulled it back near redline and we hung neck and neck. It's not going to snow here for a couple of days so we are going to try and go again from a dig and up to higher triple digits soon. He has a friend who has a stock SRT8 and he pulls slowly but surely every time which has been my experience. I guess I'll take it. I mean it's not a win by any means. And if he does any more mods I'm done. It will be interesting to see how the higher triple digit runs go. Mine gets crazy over 115 but I know the SRT8's are strong on the big end. Definitely will have the camera fully charged when we do the next runs. I'm happy but at the same time I realize that this is the best it gets. No boost control to turn up. My car is reliable right now and anything else is going to cost me big bucks. So, it is what it is. In April a friend is renting the local drag way.Him and I will both be there. Should be fun.

PS. So he just told me that he was manually shifting. So I guess he was already in gear while had to wait for kick down. But either way still very close .
evo connevo 02-16-2008, 01:32 AM What kind of numbers does the 540 put down? He should be 380-400whp with the two mods, correct? I think you would start pulling him later into 4th gear and definitely in 5th..

Flexall 02-16-2008, 01:39 AM Evo, I think I would start pulling him. But in just being fair, I can't say until it happens. He didn't want to risk too much tonight because he has 6 points. I had to pull teeth to make what happened happen. NYY42, yes, they are fast. Supposedly the predator ecu programming is 20rwhp alone. Maybe someone with an SRT8 can verify that. that's what Diablo Sport says and on the SRT8 forums those guys praise that tune.
I promise I will have video eventually of him and I running. He's a very cool guy. No ego at all. I need to figure out what I'm going to do though. I have way too many SRT8's around me and the after market for performance is growing with those. I know there are SRT8's with good mods that will kill me. I just need to be able to handle most of them.

Not sure about a chipped one but I ran what I believe to be a stock srt8 and slaughtered him pretty bad in the wagon....I thought it would be a good race but it ended up being very ugly..........
hasn't the guy with the sc 540 beaten e55's before or am I confusing him with someone else?

I've never raced an E55, so you're confusing me with someone else. You're wagon must be strong. You sure it was an SRT8 w/ 425hp and not a 5.7 with 340hp?

Shodanusmc 02-16-2008, 10:55 AM I have an 06 E55 stock. I also had two (2) Jeep SRT's and one Charger Bee SRT. The Jeeps would both pull on a dig from the AMG, but the AMG would catch and pass real fast...the jeeps also run out of steam from a roll over 60 ish. The E55 would take the Charger from a dig as long as you did not spin out, no comparison. All of my SRT's were stock. THe SRT is not in the E55 range. You are startingto read some wild times from the SRT's but they are coming from those that have a Dashhawk attached...they are not accurate, same as the G-Tech. The SRT 6.1 suffers from Heat stroke real bad, and are better in the cold. They are becoming easier to mod. Now if they ever came with a facotry Blower be careful. My Stock E55 also takes my borhters stock 06 M5 up to 100, at which point we shut down.
I think the SRT-8 charger is closer to 390whp with those mods.
My guess is you are putting out 425 crank hp = 365whp with about a 15% driveline loss.
I guessed your 540i is about 3750lbs and the SRT8 weighs around 4180lbs.
You have the better power to weight ratio; 10.27lb/whp vs his 10.72lb/whp
I would think you would have pulled him slowly the whole time as the SRT8 has lower gears and runs out of oomph above 115mph. This is of course me thinking your 540i is a manual with higher gearing.

I'm going to try and see if can run again when he gets off work. Then maybe we can get deeper in the triple digits and see what's up. Video camera is fully charged.

oh I'm positive because the guy had a personalized plate that I later tracked to a srt site and we exchanged multiple emails. Pretty cool guy and he was in total shock that he got raped that badly. What was funny is it was a very early morning and we both came to the light, I was not even thinking of racing. I looked over and he was looking straight ahead shaking his head as if he was trying to talk himself out of running...//lol.....so I just waited to see if he would jump and when the light turned he hit it.....he got about a 1/4 fender jump on me and then the whipping ensued........he let in 3rd gear because he was literally "BUS's" behind me.......yes, plural. The amg tranny in sport mode switches sooo fast that when I clicked the switch on the sterring wheel for the 1 to 2 change, the race was over.
I also ran into a srt8 magnum once, pulled up and asked me to roll my window down, complemented me on the car saying how rare they are so he knew cars.....there was traffic ahead but we went from 15-65 or so and the outcome was similar as it was with the charger...with him pretty far back.

:lol Okay, makes sense now. I was confused thinking you raped a SRT8 in your Volvo. But it was in your E55, in which case, we would all expect those results. Okay, whew....

I had already bought a new before getting under the car. Figuring it what about that time. I am anxious now. That would explain the slight delay and the playing catch up in the upper rpm's as the supercharger is working to suck through all that crap. This should be good guys. I hope he doesn't sell me out tonight. I'm ready to go.

I had 2 Jeep SRT's...the first one was bought back by Jeep for several problems, the 2nd one I sold to my Son, as I waqnted to get a Bee and the wife said one has to go. Yes, the Jeep is a beast from a DIG....best bang for the buck in my opinion. The Bee is a great vehicle, and people get neck strain looking at it. Several cops have pulled me over just to get a look see...but for power, you can't beat the E55....I will keep it over the E63.
The jeep was great to drive in these Chicago WInters, the Bee and the E55 not so nice. That is where the X5 4.4 comes in....it is our winter wheels now.

redfoot 02-16-2008, 07:44 PM In the hands of skilled tuner, some Diablo flash guys are seeing +40 hp gains across the band, with nothing more than a CAI and exhaust.
Dyno dependent #'s I've seen have been 390 -420 whp for the 6.1L.
Besides the extra hp, it also does wonders for the trans, so I've heard.
And yes, it on my list of to-do's.
You have something to be proud of Flexall.
