I am back on track - landed a new job today with a logistics company in Camarillo, 6 miles away from home, and right around the corner from the Harbor Freight US headquarters! :redspot:alright:buttrock

So, gotta wrap up work on my car as much as I can before I start on Feb. 25th.

THANK YOU to all those who offered their encouragement and support when I was laid off last October.

Grats! So does that mean you're going to be picking up parts from Nuespeed too? They are like 1 business park up from Harbor Freight, I thought. I'm sure you could find SOMEthing there to waste some $$$ on. :D

....ahhh....the good ole days of street racing in Camarillo.....what was I THINKING?!?!?!?!

Glad to see your back to work Jimbo.

Next time I see you, you had better not be driving that damn MBZ estate or the E36. Catch what I am saying? :D

thanks again for all the good words!

so, to get my car running by the end of this week i need to do the following:

1. install the gas tanks, fuel pipe, fuel pump assembly (incl. fuel filter and fuel pressure accumulator), expansion tank, and all related fuel hoses
2. put the differential back together
3. install rear subframe and differential
4. install driveshaft
5. install rear suspension
6. install rear disk brakes, hubs, wheels and tires
7. install front suspension, front disk brakes, hubs, wheels and tires
8. install brake pipes and hoses
9. install distributor at tdc
10. connect starter motor and alternator to engine wiring harness
11. install ignition coil, ignition wires and spark plugs
12. fill tanks with gasoline
13. turn the ignition
14. tune the CIS (jrcook... will need your help here)

piece of cake, eh? :)

Congrats on the new job, Jimbo. Sounds like you've got a least a month's worth of work there though. The differential is actually disassembled?!? Thats not an easy job. How familiar are you with things like "backlash" and "tooth contact pattern"?

not exactly all the way disassembled... as i didn't take the locking differential assembly apart. will replace the assembly into the case then attach the bearing covers incl. shims, then the drive flanges. got the factory manual for reference.

but yes, i'll need a dial gauge to measure backlash.

i'll try to finish as much as i can this week as i'm committed to taking my car to bimmerfest. i haven't actually factored in the paint job, changing over the rear valence, installing a crack-free dash and doing an audio install.

ah, the disease...

You've got to reset the tooth contact pattern as well as the backlash. In short you smear dye on the teeth and turn it, then compare the marks you get to some book or manual that I would have no idea where to get or if it exists.

thankfully, the factory manual has the diagram of the marks required. i'll take my time with this for sure.
