Yup, had another race yesterday on my way to pick up flowers :)
Was pulling up to the light at Monterey road and Fair Oaks when what do I see? The rear end of a new body Mitsubishi Lancer.
But wait.. I see an aggresive diffuser, and exhaust pipes, and as I get even closer.. I see a fender vent behind the front wheels. I get excited :help
I look over, and the drive looks over and gives me the "whats up" head nod, I return the nod and continue to look over his car. It looks much much, much better than the regular lancer. The new body lancers don't really do it for me, but this one, with the body accents flow much better.
He guns it a bit at the light and pulls in front of me, as the road merges. I get behind him and continue to follow, all the while reminding myself I have to get to the flower shop before they close; the time is 8:40 p.m.
We end up pulling up side by side again at the light where Garfield and Atlantic cross. I'm thinking, 'oh no, I already raced a Nismo 350Z and barely got away, this one is going to really tear me apart. But, I can't resist. I look over, this time looking at his passenger. Good looking girl :). Anyways..
We start off slowly in first, switch to second cruising as rpms get higher... 4K range, i hear him holding it in gear as well. And of course, we both gun it. His stock exhaust roared. We only wind out 2nd (well my 2nd), and a bit of 3rd, as we're on city streets and it is very risky to take it any faster than that. When we shut it down I hear a huge 'wooosh' sound from his corner, very intimidating.. :devillook I did not gain on him at all, and he probably pulled half a car from what I saw. He flashes that hazards, and I return the favor haha :). We go on our merry ways. (Got my flowers in time, phew)
Evo X keeps E46 at bay from a slow roll.
I need F/I :(

(Evo X was dark steel gray color, if you're reading this good race!)

I've heard they are slower then the evo they replaced.

^ Me too.

But I heard the new STI is better than before.

OP, did the Evo X have any mods that you could tell?

They haven't been out that long and I don't think AMs has even sold any parts that they are devoliping for it yet. I mean..they've been on the streets for like only a month now.

As much as I don't like them and hated the thought of them going away from the 4G63...the new engine put down some serious #'s with the prototype parts at AMS. The head flows extremely well.

I think the older evo it replaced is faster. I mean 13.8-9 @101mph 1/4 miles times thats near e36 m3 times :stickoutt.

Are they? :confused That would seem like a poor marketing choice. They do look a bit heavier/larger than the last models they replaced.

I couldn't see any mods, looked completely stock. In fact I'd bet it was stock.

All these new performance cars coming out, very exciting. Holding the fort until the new M3 hits the streets haha :)

Went to the mitsubishi website but can't find any information on it?! Only special preorders right now? How do we get the spec sheet for one?

The fastest magazine test so far has been a 13.4@104 or 105. There were some pre-production models that were running around a 13.8@100-102

Hopefully, that will not be the norm for the new Evo. I too am disappointed by the car in general. The IX seems like it was a much more focused car. My friend has a 300whp IX, and after Auto crossing it, and spending a lot of time behind the wheel, I can attest that it's a truly phenomenal car. For reference he runs 12.1@117 with minor mods on shitty street tires.

The Evo X's 4B11T is responding to mods better than a lot of people predicted:

And that is with bolt-ons...no tuning..yet.

Exactly, it was much more performance oriented. The Evolution X is supposed to be near the same performance as the IX (it is a tiny bit slower) but it has a much nicer interior and is much safer and has all sorts of standard equipment and etc. to attract more of the general public into the car, until now the Evolution was pretty much only bought by teenagers and the few adults who could afford to sacrifice comfort and luxury and etc. either because they didn't have bad backs yet or because they used their Evos as track cars mainly, Mitsubishi needs more sales and now more of the non-gearheads will be looking at the Evo.

I dont think it should be able to hang with a properly driver e46 m3 ever in stock form, and i do mean everrrrrrrrrrrr. A decent driver should be able to pull at least a 13.3 in a stock e46 m3.( I have seen 12.8's in stock e46's m3's) Hey thats just what I THINK.:cool The bottomline is its slower then the car it replaces stock for stock. We all know how slow the other stock evo's were from a roll. Never mind the new 1 which comes in at what 3400lbs? :)

The new evo is over 3500lbs i believe. I'm surprised he pulled on you. No one really has any mods done, besides the shop cars. They are still very new but make great power with some bolt ons as seen on dyno sheets.

good run, the evo had superior traction...if u guys kept going u would have owned him hardcore up top...if u guys have seen a IX vs. X stock dyno plot, the X loses hp and torque after IIRC 5000rpm MASSIVELY compared to a IX, and a stock IX would lose to an e46 m3 after 80mph.

while the IX is a much more focused car, the X obliterates the IX in the handling department, on paper. it's 250lbs heavier but its technology and chassis are also phenomenal. now i'm not a big fan for computer-driven cars, but hey it gets the job done...

if the X's engine is capable of awesome power, it'll be a very well-rounded car - relatively comfort compared to older Evo's, and awesome handling and decent acceleration.

that said a 350whp X will probably be as quick as a 320whp IX, and to get 320whp in a IX takes full turbo back, manual boost controller, and a tune...that much weight is hard to overcome :(

They have to completely redesign the Evo that's why they came up with this new one to maybe (perhaps) generate more sales. I haven't read a good rave about the styling of the "old" Evo from the critics. If Mitsubishi dont sell much of their autos here in the US, I wont be surprised they'll be gone in few years. Look at the incentives just for you to buy their cars (most lineups) ZERO down/Financing and cash back and they've been doing this for a while just to entice you to buy their autos. They'll probably gonna be like Izuzu drop the auto lineup here in the US and concentrate on just selling trucks.

The March Road and Track has a great comparison of the new WRX STI and Evo X. They show 3555 lbs. and 4.9 sec 0-60. Apparently the new all wheel drive system paired with the new semi-auto tranny (twin clutch I think) is ridiculously good.
It has BBS wheels standard too. Pretty nice lookin ride for the money.

There are a lot of factors involved. Some places in Cali have higher elevation which hurt naturally aspriated cars. Advantage goes to forced induction. Also...if it's a short quick burst race from a stop...or low mph...it helps the EVO.

The OP said he was in 2nd and said he probably should have been in first. No doubt he should have been in first.

i raced an e46 m in my dsm last summer, and the colorado elevation gave me the advantage, even tho he had more whp.
