95 525iT, how do you remove the luggage rack? I found rust where the rack meets the roof and need to remove it to make repairs.
Any help is appreciated.

rack or rails?

rails run lengthwise and are always on the car.

rack runs across the car from side to side.

to remove the rails, remove the headliner to access the /nuts.

The rails have to come off. I was hoping the headliner did not have to come out but the rust has to go and I want to get rid of the rails permanently. Thanks for the reply attack eagle.

lemme know how it goes. I'm thinking of taking mine off as well.

There was a write up on this forum, the guy said that he had to remove the headliner and that there were about 5-6 per side. Said the hardest was getting the headliner out. Do you have the aero racks, if so I would be interested in them.
Does anyone know what the rails are made of, mine are blistering and looks almost like pot metal. Depending on weight I might buy your rails, so I can look into getting them done and then swap new for old.

You would really need to call and check your local BMW dealership...they all charge at different rates.
