My old one is broke on the corner. It works fine, just can't be attached to a key ring. There are a few on eBay

You can pick up an aftermarket remote fob from www.keylessride.com for approx $50. It works the same way as the RF (radio frequency) 3 button black rectangular remote fob used in BMWs.

Even though the sites says that they only go back to 1993 model year...if you have the BMW keyless entry control module under your rear seat that is just like the ones in the 1993-up BMWs...it will work for your 1988-1992 BMW, too.

As long as you have a BMW remote that looks like this:

The www.keylessride.com remote that looks like this will work for you:

So I confused as to what my options are for my 92 525iT. I was under the assumption that I was going to have purchase a whole aftermarket keyless system and install myself. This thread states that Keylessride will also work on 92s if you have the keyless entry control module. So I pulled up the seat (the car is new to me) and took some pics. Can someone take a look and tell me if they see what I am looking for or if I need to buy a new system?http://lh5.ggpht.com/SandPoint7710/SDnwL7nQ0qI/AAAAAAAAKoM/RZ1CXO7lCfk/IMG_6467.JPG?imgmax=512

You don't have the keyless entry module. You can source a brain on eBay for $50-$75.

Take some pictures of the battery side. Not all '92s are prewired for the alpine system. Look for a 12 pin connector, outboard of the battery, not plugged into anything, in the vicinity of the fuel pump/abs harness where it goes through the rear firewall. If you have that, the car can use the Alpine system, otherwise it has to be wired in (or use aftermarket).

You need this thing attached to the cover of the fuse box under the rear seat:

Yours should have it, all US sedans built after ~ 7 or 10/90 have it. For some reason, early Tourings are not always prewired :confused
