My whole suspension is being overhauled soon. Just waiting on my back ordered springs to come in.

I am doing the subframe bushings as well and don't really want to drop $400 for the tool. Anyone have one I can borrow or rent???

My car is a '99 2.8 coupe. They have an e30 rear end if that matters.

Thanks

those are easy I just took a fat drill to mine. Drilled a bunch of holes into the bushing and then I think I collapsed them with a hammer/small chisel. You just have to make sure you don't hit the sleeve.

what ray said. It sucks, but is the 2nd best method. I also perfer to burn mine. It doesn't really do anything except entertain me.

I set mine on fire too with the torch, always entertaining.

I don't want to torch because then I have to drop the entire subframe completely.

And I can't torch with the subframe still on the car because the drivers side is about 6 inches away from my plastic gas tank.

I appreciate the ideas, but I find that any job is easier with the correct tool.

unless you are going to get the tool, just drop the subframe. it will be faster in the end. plus you can remove the bushings without laying on your back the whole time.

mark my words, by the time you are done, if you don't remove the rear subframe, you will spend more time and effort than it would have taken to remove, uninstall, re-install and remount the subframe.

I'm telling you from experience, torching isnt fast, drilling isnt fast, nothing works like the TOOL for the subframe bushings. I was lucky enough for someone to lend me theirs.

Oh the tool is by far the fastest way to do it but I couldn't find anyone with it . For my e36 I took the subframe to a shop but for the e30 I had some fun with it instead :D

If you do a quick search, there's a member that made a DIY tool. He bough a few odds and ends from Lowes and chucked it together only spending like 10.00, or somthing. I think the thread was titled "bearing tool" or "ultimate tool." Anyway, he could remove wheel bearing with it too. Pretty neat. Also, Autozone, and i think O'Reilys too, has a renting service. Good deal if you ask me, considering there's a 100% return on your money, once you return w/e you borrowed. Basically free rental.

You can make a tool for under $40 sourcing the parts from a hardware store. This is what I used; worked just fine.

Do you happen to have your homemade tool laying around? I would be happy to buy it from you or borrow it if you are that kind :)

I am just worried about getting my car apart and find that my tool making skills are lacking :stickoutt

Sorry, I passed it on to another member when I was done with it.

I am sure that I will most definetly do that.

I am not sure if I have to work Friday or not yet, but if you're free Saturday then you are most welcome to swing by. I would appreciate the help greatly. I am pretty handy, but this is my first suspension.

I will PM you my number :buttrock
