Hey All,
This problem has started a couple of months ago.
Whilst enjoying some spirited driving, and higher RPM WOT operation,
I noticed that there was a slight miss in the engine while driving light, and also when idling. Threw code P1357 Cyl 8 Misfire.
When shut off and restarted, all was normal again.
Next, when starting in the cold one morning, the 2nd Air pump code came up, along with the side-kick solonoid. Wasn't too concerned. Reset and see if it poppes up again. Occasionaly it does. BMW is now just dissabling these pumps.
Then a whole bunch of codes came up for Cyl 6/7/8 for Misfires. P0492/P0491
Reset again.
Now the engine detonates very easily while in neutral and just giving reasonable throttle. When coming back from Seattle, it had difficulty trying to get up a hill. Cat Convertor??
With light loads it operates not bad. Occasionaly has the rough idle, now more pronounced.
Never any Cam sensor codes.
Had new MAF last year.
New (glass beaded Ir plugs 4 months ago.)
I did have the fuel rail off to remove the cam covers to blast off the crappy inner paint. Maybe a Vacuum leak??
I have dealt with plugged cats on other vehicles. The intermittent issue here leads me elsewhere. But still a possibilty.
Any ideas or thoughts would be great.
If the cat(s) are plugged, would that create a volatile combustion environment
Thanks
Art
