That was one of the birthday presents i got this year. My girlfriend is in a program where there is access to a laser cutter. Works basically like a CNC/Laser printer. The material is like a masonite type compressed wood fiber board.
Looks awesome, one of the neatest gifts i've ever had. The board is about 11x11 and the emblem is 9'' diameter.

Jeff, did I tell you I have a laser cutter?
The possibilities are endless as to what can be done with it. It is used for production but I have done so many things for the boat I can not even begin to think of them all.

arent they neat devices? I need to go see this one in action. They are going to be able to cut plexiglass soon with it after the exhaust system is modified on it.

plexi is neat. You can do reverse engraving from the back side and then use LEDs along the bottom to light up the engraving. It then looks like it is floating. Also when you cut the edge of the plexi, it leaves the edges with a polished look.
Like I said, possibilities are endless and if you have a rotary attachment, it gets even more interesting. I have engraved wine bottles for gifts and have done complete engraving of MagLites. For our last tradeshow, I made logo keychains and pased them out.
