FYI: This guy makes posts wanting to buy your stock BMW catalytic converters so he can make a huge amount of money from them. Just take a look at his other threads.

Nothing wrong with that. We should all know by now that BMW cats are worth big money. I sold my 320i one for $130 and a 6 series one is twice as big. Platinum is $1200+ per ounce, and theres an average of 1/6 ounce in a convertor. (though I believe BMWs are above average) Plus about 1/10 as much rhodium and thats $6000 an ounce!

For you guys wanting to sell 6er cats, i sold mine for $250 on eBay. It was a 7 day bid, and within 4 hours of the cat being on eBay it was over $200. So there is definitely something of importance in there!

Its pretty simple in theory, but would take lots of time and effort. You cut the cats open, bust up the bricks into chunks, then bake them (I forget why, maybe to burn off the carbon or something). Then put them in a tank of liquid (some kind of acid I think) and use electricty to extract the metals, sort of the reverse of plating metal. Then you end up with a sludge that contains all the metals (platinum, palladium and rhodium) and you send that to a refiner. The refining process is much too complicated for the DIYer. Then the refiner pays you for the amount of pure metal they are able to get from the sludge. Of course you can find much better instructions online.
