View Full Version : Attn: SoCal area teen e46 drivers
pphil09 02-06-2008, 12:14 PM My dad and I are going to be coming down to california from apprx March 31st to April 9th to look at colleges. I was talking with Lauren "SilverBeam" who is obviously a mod here, and she said that she is having a driving course on April 6th. If I can convince my dad to let us drive down, would any of you be interested in taking the course and having an e46 showing?
Spencer, enik, Smartforaday, bimmer330ci(close to it), etc...
Woulg you guys be up for that? Its a sunday...
SilverBeam 02-06-2008, 12:42 PM If you can't get your car down here, I can arrange to let you use my sister's E36 328is 5speed. It'll be close enough to yours for you to learn stuff, and it will be fitting, because she did the class in my 2000 323i.
pphil09 02-06-2008, 12:47 PM Thanks!
Is there any information that you would want to add to the opening post?
mikeluvdakids 02-06-2008, 12:53 PM *sigh* you miss all the fun living on the east coast...
nicknoodles 02-06-2008, 02:41 PM ^^ agreed :(
GWEEDOspeedo 02-06-2008, 03:13 PM We're sort of like the west coast today being that it's 70 friggin degrees out.

SilverBeam 02-06-2008, 04:41 PM More info:
Who we are: We are a non profit organization founded and run by professional race car drivers. Our program is based on what we have learned on the track and what has saved our lives.
What is the program: We focus on visual skills and accident avoidance-- not just how to hit the car in front of you, but how to make sure you aren't in that place where you need to avoid it in the first place.
Why the program is important: There is NO formal driving training required to get a license in the US. Instead of teaching proper driving technique, defensive driving, and accident avoidance, you know, the stuff that saves lives, the DMV program focuses on teaching you the rules of the road. Unfortunately, far too often in this world, experience is gained by young drivers AFTER they need it, and over 5,000 times every year gaining that experience costs a young driver their life. Our program is important because it teaches you this experience before you need it, ensuring that you will have a way out of a situation, and quite possibly saving your life and the lives of others. It is also a LOT of fun. You'll get to slide your car around, slam on the brakes, and really learn what you and your car can do.
Cost: $400 TAX DEDUCTIBLE!!! Make sure you tell your parents they get a tax break from this. If they say it's expensive, tell them the cost of the average accident in the US is $19,000. So instead of seeing it as $400 out of pocket, see it as $18,600 in pocket ;) Also, you may be able to get reduced insurance rates due to completing the course.
Location: The course is operated at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=&daddr=33.554342,-117.667136&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=15&sll=33.554298,-117.667361&sspn=0.017274,0.039911&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=15&om=0 Pin is located on the lot we use

Or ask me
For those not in CA, check out the track section and ask about similar programs. There is bound to be something near you that you can attend. Also, if you can't attend in April, we have courses year round. In fact, our next one is March 2nd.

ill see if i can...but 400...idk, my parents might not let me...haha...
SilverBeam 02-06-2008, 10:28 PM If your parents have any questions about the costs I suggest they read the article, look at the website, and call Judy. It IS worth, and that isn't just my opinion. It is the opinion of every student and every parent who has attended our class. After the day they all agree that it was well worth the cost. The vast majority of our students are there because someone they know, or their parents know, attended the program and thought highly enough of it to recommend it to others.
I feel that a parent who doesn't see the value in getting their child driver's training doesn't value their child's life. I'm not just talking about our program, but ANY program. It is proven that they save lives.
pphil09 02-06-2008, 10:34 PM :wavey when you guys are coming back from FL, maybe you could pick up my dad and I in Wa :dunno

ohnoes 02-10-2008, 02:18 AM I'll be there, in spirit. Just imagine a car that's much faster than yours, blowing by you at insane speeds, and that's me.
