So, I finally got the SES light to go away. Today I went for a ride on the highway and something goes flying off the front of my car. I'm like, "WHAT THE HELL!" I get off at the next exit to see the damage. My passenger side chrome grille trim flew off.:mad My car looks like it has one of its front teeth missing.

Well now is as good a time to buy the full chrome grille set. It should arrive Friday.

I recently replaced mine too, they look so much better now. How bout you give your car a nice bath and wax then slowly get her back out on the highway, she wants to go, i mean its a BMW, its made to be Driven!

I bought my car with the all chrome kidneys already on. I kind of like the normal 740 ones better.

The BMW oe grills come in two flavors...all black slats w/chrome surround...or black slats w/chrome front edge and chrome surround.

The 1995-1998 e38s have slats that are straight (up & down) and sit behind the chorme surround...and the 1999-01 (face lift) grills have slats that are curved and protrude slightly out from the surround.

Giving consideration for personal taste...most people generally prefer the 01 grills with the chromed front edge slats (to get BMW OE...you would need to order the front grills from an 01 750iL).

Ebay sellers manytime offers an all chromed grill that some consider a bit over the top and some like it. But I thought I'd just share info as to what the BMW original chromed grills look like.

Below is what the (face lift: 1999-01) BMW oe grills look like which have the chromed "front edge" on the slats:

Below is same car (above) but with the new 01 750iL style BMW grills with the chromed front edge on the slats:

Below is another e38 with the BMW oe 01 750iL grills that have slats that are chromed only on the front edge:

I'm honestly not a fan of the all-chrome grilles either. But I don't like chrome much anyway. I'll be getting blackout grilles for my 7, and a new badge for the trunk lid which I will be painting black as well. Then I'll be chrome free!
