hey i installed a cone intake in the engine bay instead of the restrictive stock one, however, after like 20 miles the CEL comes on, does anyone know why this would happen? is the car breathing less with it and the CEL comes on? anyone experience this or has a custom intake? thanks

also i have seen some people with Dinan and K&N intakes that are located in the engine bay near the engine, but doesnt that mean that hot air is being sucked into the engine? isnt that bad for the engine? maybe thats why the CEL goes on cause the engine is "suffocating", ive seen some pics on this site and it seems that that small cone may do more damage than good, is it worth custom building an intake like the DInan one?

You answered your own question, your factory setup is better than a cone. Ditch it.

Adding a cone intake just makes it worse, go back to well designed OEM.
The check engine light might have come on because of filter oil getting on to the MAF sensor (just a guess).

If you make it right, it's fine. I used heat wrap over an anderson motorsport tube
to block radiant heat. The filter/tube stays damn cool. Shouldn't throw any codes.

those K&N oiled filters are hell on your MAF and will cause premature death. Get a good stock filter not cheap autozone crap

You know, you are not supposed to dip the filter in a bucket of oil, just a *light* mist of oil on them.
Here is a picture of my air filter in the engine. I just filled the whole air box with cooking oil. I had to plug the ends though, or else the oil would run out.
