View Full Version : Seat swap!?!

Right i bought a 328 convertible at the weekend,

I still have my 318 convertible that i am yet to sell they are both 97 models and they have different interior/front seats.

The 318 has what i think are 'lux' seats which means there is a thigh support on the bottom of the front seats that you can pull out, with the seats in the 328 they are just 'normal' seats?

Would the original owner upgraded to have these seats in the 318? If so is it worth me swapping to have them in my 328 before i sell my 318.

Also the leather seems of a different quality, the leather on the seats in the 318 feels more tight and thin/smooth compared to a rough/wrinkled/loose texture on the seats in the 328?!? im pretty sure they are the same colour, however not 100% as i dont have both cars outside now to check...

Any advice on this would be appreciated :eyecrazy

the seats that are in your 318 are called sport seats, not lux seats.

who knows what the original owner did. if you want the 318 interior in the 328, then by all means you should swap them.

i would bet that 318 actually has leatherette, not real leather.

Sport seats were a factory option. Much, MUCH better thab regular seats, which might have been barstools. They give zero support.

Not sure what the US had for options fabric wise, but here you had Montana or Nappa leahther. We didn't have Leatherette here.

I agree. it sounds like you are describing the non-sport (rough) vs. the sport (smooth with higher bolsters and pull out support for under legs) seats.

I'd swap them. Sport seats are way more comfy. After you sell, you'll kick yourself for missing the opportunity. Plus, if you decided later on to swap, you'd have to pay a premium for sport seats, while non-sports don't sell for anywhere close to as much.

Do it and show us pictures!!!

Ok kool cheers guys, it seems a completely different material all together but the intention is to re-leather in the next year or so anyway so it really doesnt matter, yeh the 318 seats are more comfortable, right thats my weekend planned out then! think the doorcards are the same!? aslong as they are the same colour? Yeh course il post some pics up! Anyone changed any seats over?

Any helpful hints and tips for me to tackle this? or is it a piece of cake?

Cheers for your advice again guys :)

So whats the verdict guys? Swap the seats fom the 318 to the 328? Are the ones in the 318 the sol called 'sport seats', theyre slightly better condition in the 328 but the leathers weird and loose, doesn’t matter too much anyway as intend to re-trim in the next year or so, the 328 is only a 'sun' car not my daily driver. By the looks of things the two interiors are the same colour... I just dont know where to start with swapping the seats over s never done it before!?! Also what about the doorcards?

All help will be appreciated, thanks Levi (PICS TO FOLLOW AT THE WEEKEND AFTER PROGRESS!!!)

Ps also a pic of each of the convertibles:

everything will bolt and plug in (unless you have heated seats on one but not the other.
Take out the battery hit the brakes a few times wait 10 mins.
Unbolt the 318 seats and put it into the 328 :D

exactly.

there are 4 bolts (15 mm, i think) that hold each seat in place, and some electrical connections beneath each seat.

remove the bolts, undo the connections, swap the seats, reconnect the connections, and replace the bolts. not too difficult at all.

i see no reason to change the doorpanels, since they are the same.
