Yes, the title is correct. I have a project I bought last year, and with the rising prices in diesel fuel, it's almost cheaper to have a "sports" car project. Guess you have to be a special type of person to want and own one of these trucks, and this all spurred from looking on Ebay one day at 4 wheelers and Jeeps, and you can't deny the bang for the buck offroading capabilities of this thing.

Low down: Truck was driven from Aztec, NN straight through to Houston, nary a hiccup or problem, save for typical oil blowby. Truck was originally in Barstow, CA with the Army, don't know which unit. Depot rebuild in '91, painted in 2000, some minor surface rusting, but no rustthrough anywhere on the truck. Undercarriage is in great shape, truck starts and runs beautifully. Coming up on an oilchange, parts available at local auto parts store (about $100 for the filters and 6 GALLONS of oil).

What it needs: A couple tires, which can be found surplus at a lot of places across the country. I pay about $50 per tire/tube, and $25 per for mounting at a truck stop here in town. Also needs some front axle work, and I have the 2 seals it needs for replacing, just don't have the time for it. Could use some TLC on the cab, but then again, this is an ARMY truck, not a showqueen. Could use a new cab top, about $150 brand new, and rear cargo cover, about $300 brand new depending where you look. Replacement parts are plentiful if you know where to look, as well as more trucks to be purchased in auction for spares.

Legal: 50-states legal, under the commercial weight restrictions. In Texas atleast a standard Class C license is fine to drive this thing, its just a big pickup as far as the state is concerned. Check your local laws first. Also, this is a very large truck, so make sure you can handle this before hand, and no, more HOA's will shit a brick, as mine did. I pay $70 a month for 24hr access RV storage within walking distance from my house. Please make sure you have the capabilities before committing. Insurance is $65 a month full coverage through State Farm commercial, and registered under Texas Former Military, an antique program that costs $10 per YEAR.

The fun: This is a VERY easy truck to drive, once you get the feel for it. I'd never even sat in one of these before I picked it up and drove it home, and 2 miles down the road I had it down. NO POWER STEERING means dont get it in tight spots or you'll be there for a while. Also, this IS a diesel motor, but I have the original parts to convert it back to MULTI-FUEL use, which means you can run damn near anything in it. I run a mix of fryer oil and diesel right now, will run just about any oil-based lubricants mixed with diesel as fuel however. Remember, the colder the climate, the higher the ratio of diesel you'll need.

Would I trust this truck to make another cross-country drive? YES! But after topping off all fluids of course, and swapping the 2 or 3 tires it needs.

What Im looking for: E36, 2 or 4 door, doesn't matter. under 150k miles preferably, updated waterpump/thermostat housing, basically a good solid daily driver in good condition mechanically AND aesthetically. This truck I hold a $5000 value on, and would like to trade for a car of equal value. I would sell outright for $4500 however.

Email for pics, since I can't post them up right now. Will post them here as soon as my account gets unleashed by admin.

I would love something like that, unfortunately I don't think that will fit in my school parking space.
