Anyone had any experience troubleshooting a trunk leak. I cant figure out where it it coming from. The trunk floor is dry, but the inide of the trunk lid is very wet. I figure it may be coming in from the joining of the spoiler and trunk lid. Any help would be useful.

Your diagnosis makes sense. I'd troubleshoot by area. Get the lid dry, and wet down a specifi area of the trunk and see if the lid is wet afterwards. After you find the spot, it could be as simple as finding some sort of filler. I read an article that covered a trunk leakage fix for an E30, and they used some kind of a caulk to stop the leak. It began as a result of the drain gutters that run down the C-pillars that emptied into the side compartments in the trunk. IIRC, they used a specific brand, but anything that seals out water should work.

I tend to take the cheap route for the short term until I can afford a better solution :)

I'm having a similar problem, but I think the water is getting into the side bits where the stereo and battery are. I suspect this may be a problem with the rear light light cluster. I'll try changing these out and let you know if it makes any difference.

I had three seperate leaks to the trunk and it took many weekends to track them down. The worst was the through the tail lights, the chromed pot metal frames had corroded and were letting water through. New frames and seals with sealant between the the frame and the seal and between the seal and the body took care of that leak.
Second one was the spoiler, water was getting by the old sealant so re-placed it with plumbers putty, fixed.
Third was a very slow leak coming in from the rear window seal on the passenger side. It was draining into that pocket just forward of the amp and just behind the rear wheel. I didn't want get into pulling the rear glass so I drilled a hole in the bottom of that pocket so the water emptys out as soon as it arrives, then painted the inside edge of the hole.
I also had multiple leaks up front, but that's another thread.

six seris,

I have the same sound in my car so i took of the cover for the trunklid, where the tools are, and found the lid was full of water. It had begun to warp the decklid cover, so i took all the panels out of the car for the winter so they dont warp.

Thanks for the help everyone, I think its going to be a long day of troubleshooting.
