From for sale add:
I also have a 87 535IS 5 speed transmission that works good. But the rear bearing makes noise. $150.00

Also how hard is it to replace the rear bearing?

Thanks for the input!

Based on your car profile, your 633 (MY 1981) should be using a Getrag 265, if I recall right. The trans in question is a Getrag 260, which is slightly shorter than the 265. It would require you to get a new driveshaft, too.

Your best bet is to find a 5 speed from a MY 1985 5-er or 6-er, as those were also Getrag 265s, so a new driveshaft isn't needed. This is assuming, of course, that you won't just rebuild the box you've got, as it is a very desireable transmission. I called around 4 states just to find one for my CS.

The application data comes from the Metric Mechanic website. I got the length data from the driveshaft length differences between the 260 and 265. (I think it was 4.4 cm or so.)

My car currently has a 3 speed auto I would be converting it to a manual. Thanks for the input!

Oh, well that's a whole different can of worms.

Converting it to a manual will require a new driveshaft anyway, as well as a lot of other bits. You could do worse than the 260, but a 265 will be stronger. Plus, it sounds like that trans has had a very hard life.

The 260 will not accept the cable drive for the speedo. If you get the 265 from anything newer than 82, you might have to add the parts for the speedo drive but this can be easily done.

Where do you get the parts to convert the speedo?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but this is a 265. I don't know about the bell housing and speedo set up.

It is a 265, but since it is from an E30 M3, it lacks the speedo drive.

OP- Ideally, you'd get the parts from your existing manual trans, but since you don't have this, it makes things rather tricky. You should still be able to order the components, though. I don't think the 260 ever came with a mechanical speedo, so you'd need a 265 to keep the speedo without converting to a digital one, which wouldn't exactly be trivial.

'85 265s and 265s from E30 M3s have a blocker plate where the drive gear goes. Here are the parts you will need, assuming your speedo cable is long enough in the first place:

You should be able to order the parts from the $tealer or from a few others, like Carl Nelson of La Jolla, or Maximillion, off the top of my head.
