I think the turning point for me was when my brother-in-law cruised on over to my house one day in 1998 in a new white 325 with a MT and asked if I wanted to test drive it...At that time I wasn't too familiar with BMW..I knew it as being a "yuppie" car and liked the look but had never driven one up to that point...

The first thing I noticed was how solid the car felt compared to my Mazda truck and the "unique" orange colored dashboard lights! Quite different I thought...well what did it for me was the driving...it was a fun car to drive! compact and sporty..but what got me was the handling and responsiveness..

Not sure why it took me so long to bite but when I finally did I bit hard and haven't looked back..

Glad to be finally part of the "club"!

Was looking to take advantage of the GM rebates and incentives and trade in the 06 Chevy for a 08. Dealer had a 97 328 on the web site so decided to take a test drive. Only had 100k miles and price was right so figured rather then go upside down on a new car go with the used luxury car.

Test drove it on a crappy snowy day but was still impressed with how solid the car felt and how still tight it was.

When it warms up I will change the w pump, radiator and pretty much all of the expendable parts. Put the g force radials on last week.

The look, many people don't like Bangle's bodystyles but I love em. A few of my friends had like 1996 750's and 850's and I always though they were hottt! But when Bangle redesigned the 7, then the 5, Z and the 3's. I fell in love. I think the e90's are absolutely perfect. Leased my 335i in July and I'm already planning my next one(probably M3) for 2009.

Are you asking about the e90 in particular or the 3-series/BMW in general?

In my case, I guess I have been a BMW fan since childhood. During highschool/university days, friends/relatives owned BMWs (3-series e21/e30, 5-series e12/e28) which I got to ride in and enjoy frequently and then my dad finally got a 7 series e23 which I got to drive regularly for many years. I loved that car even though it was old and required constant maintenance, yet it was sheer joy to drive. I had to wait till I graduated and got a decent paying job till I owned my 1st BMW, a brand new '97 e36. Had it for 10 years till I decided to go for a new e90 this year. Always loved BMWs, but this time the great deal they had on my car (great deal for Canada that is) made my decision a lot easier. We'll see if I will be a lifetime BMW owner or not, hopefully yes.

As soon as you step into a 3, you can see the refinement. I haven't driven any car in it's class that has that BMW feel, either handling, comfort, performance and engineering. BMWs just seem to "fit". Funny you mention the amber lights, that is the most eye soothing color at nighttime, if it's one thing I can't stand is bright white, blue, green, or that fugly purple used in the Volkswagen ...

It's a nice break from the dime-a-dozen CTS and A6's around town

* Pure straight 6
* Defined/s the RWD sport sedan category
* Design ergonomics (something I did not appreciate until I strayed from a 328 to a 350Z and back to a 335i)
* Handling and the actual driving experience even over the numbers (hp, tq, 0-60)
* The classic look of the headlights/grill

No matter how bad a day I have, when I get into my 335, life is good.

Memories of my 01 MT 325i, plus the beauty of the 335i coupe.

I have to admit, it's been a dream that's fallen short. The coupe is great and all but doesn't thrill like the 01. Too much luxury, too soft, too soundproof, too high tech. I guess I just prefer sports cars.

My wife saw a 335 coupe one day and said "I like that, what is it" so I looked into it and when I found out about the performance and how affordable it was, it was a no brainer.

I love the beauty lines on the 335. The fact that you can get it AWD 6spd. 300/300 and finally.....Its a BMW

I have allways respected BMW, never thought I would own one until last year that is...I had read about the 335i and its Twin Turbo power plant. Then i spoke to a friend who test drives new BMWs and she said it was one of the best she has driven in a long time. After that I was pretty much sold...it helped that a friends family owns a BMW dealership and they hooked me up.

In early September 2006, I was almost ready to pull the trigger on a 911 Cabriolet, and saw a review of the 335. I went and test drove one, and was totally floored. It also seemed significantly more practical than the 911 (for what that's worth), and my wife liked it better (ditto). I owned a 3-series in the late 90's also that I really liked, which made the decision easier also.

Never was a fan of the older BMW styling (besides M3's) but really loved the more rounded look of the E92. But the main reason was the unbelievable driving experience.

I am new to BMW. Always knew they were good cars based on the reviews, but thought they were overpriced for the performance. I have owned MBs, Audis, Lexus', and Acuras. I did my homework early last year and decided to test drive one of the new 335is to find out if it was as advertised. Local dealer had one, and gave it to me to drive for a weekend. It was like Mein Gott, this is one hell of a car!

My plan was to wait until 2009 and get a LS460 as a (military) retirement present; I've had my 96 Accord since it was new and thought I deserved what I wanted. Two things happened to change my plans: I test drove the LS460 (it is luxurious but boring to drive) and one day I decided that anything in life can happen and I should enjoy some things now. I chose a 335 because I have liked BMWs for a while. We tried to buy one in Vegas but the dealer was such a snob it became a turn off. I tried to buy a G35 - my wife had a 2003 G35 - and it just wasn't the same as a BMW. I would get excited just going to the lot and looking at the cars when they were closed. My wife told me that the 335 was where my heart was at and to go ahead and get it. The rest is history.

My 318is was the first reason I loved BMWs. It's a 1996 and my cousin bought it new in 1996 and drove it for ~10 years before he sold it to me because I wanted a manual car, I've always loved riding around in it with him and I loved driving it even more (especially coming off of a 1991 Mercedes 300E).

Another BMW that I've always loved is a friend's dad's 1991 E34 M5, I had only rode in it like 3 or 4 times in my life but it's such an amazing car, I got to drive it last year while I was helping my friend learn manual on my 318is (after I got my E90, no one wanted to buy my beat up 318 so it became our sort of mess around car) and after a few hours his dad took us for a ride in the M5 and my friend drove it a little and then his dad asked if I wanted to drive it. I've driven faster cars and I've driven more comfortable cars but there is NOTHING I would rather own than that E34 M5, not sure what exhaust is on there since the previous owner put it on but it sounds amazing.

i gotta say that two of the main attractions for my future 335i convertible is the retractable hardtop and the crazy power with little mods

All of these points plus all the years of driving cars that were classified as "almost as good as a BMW" when I came across a used E90 335i with only 2k miles at a great price it was a no-brainer. My only complaint is the run-flat's and constant monitoring of the speedometer to watch my speed.

This was almost my reason exactly. My 2001 325ci mt was my first BMW. I loved it. I figured since I loved that car I would really love a 740i sport. Don't get me wrong, it was a great car, but not quite the same. When I bought this car, I considered almost every other make and model and could not get over how much fun it was for the price. If you look at almost anything else and consider that you get a reasonably comfortable car with seating for 4, room for golf clubs, 300hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque, 0-60 in under five seconds, a great highway cruiser and all modern electronics, it is tough to not buy it.

I guess my only disagreement is that I actually like this car alot better than my 2001.

I got hooked on German cars owning a few new VWs over the past 8 years. On those, the regular maintenance cost was crazy. The free maintenance and better performance made BMW the next logical step for me. Test driving the 335i sealed the deal.

I started looking at BMW 3-4 years ago. I had all the catalogs and browsed through them for the longest time. I went to the local dealers lot several times, but didn't appear to be "client worthy" to them. You know the "down the nose look" that can be found at some dealerships. Needless to say, my work jeans must be a turn off to sales folks so what the hell, I could wander the lot in peace.

One of my customers had a new 330XI and one day we chatted it up about his experience and about his Client Advisor. I drove the 45 minutes to his dealer, met his Rep., and test drove both the 07 328 and the 335. Wow. Went back three weeks later with my wife and put down a deposit with my order for the 335i E92.

After several weeks it arrived. I paid cash for it. They seemed to think I was "client worthy". Later I told Jerry, my CA, that this would probably be the last new vehicle I will buy. I'm 64 years old.

Three months later I stopped in to say hello and pick up a couple of items. I looked up Jerry and asked if he remembered my comment about this being my last vehicle. He said "Yes". I told him to disregard previous observation. There will be more BMW's in my life.

Oh how I love this car.

Turn you hymnals to 2002–David E. Davis, Jr. blows his mind on the latest from BMW. If the 1600 was the best $2,500 sedan C/D ever tested, the 2002 is most certainly the best $2,850 sedan in the whole cotton-picking world….Feel free to test-drive one, but please don’t tell any of those ten million squares who are planning to buy something else. They deserve what they get. Now turn your hymnals to Number 2002….

I Was Pulled Over In A Brand New E30 325i Cabrio When I Was 12. I Was Driving My Cousin's Wife's Mother's Car. (that Saw Ferris Pass Out At 31 Flavors Last Night).

I Swore I Would Own That Car.

Fast Forward Almost 15 Years, And Not Only Did I Get My E30 Cabrio, But Now Have An E34. I Have Actually Had Two E30 Cabrio's And Two E34's.

It's Safe To Say That I Will Always Have A Bmw In My Stable. Not Aying It's The Only Car I Will Ever Have, But Will Always Have One In The Garage.....

About a year and a half ago, my wife asked me to find her a new car. She said that she wanted a sporty, small and comfortable car that handled exceptionally well. I drove all of the entry level luxury cars and decided that she needed a BMW 3. Well, after I made my recommendation, she decided on a Toyota Avalon....go figure.

When it came time for me to purchase a car, I went straight to the BMW dealer. I've never driven a car that drives like a 3.

I chose the 335i because it has better performance than any other car at its level. The Mercedes C350 is too slow, the G37 is gay, and the Audi S5 is a rip-off.
Actually I never even considered the G37. lol.
I might have gotten the Mercedes but there are too many Mercedes these days, I wouldnt be able to find my car in the parking lot. And it is over a second slower from 0-60.
the Audi is nice but it just doesnt look as cool and I like the BMW brand better. Its just not worth the extra money. Maybe the Audi would win me over if it had twin turbos, that would kick ass. Currently the audi only has 50hp more than the 335 and worse handling... not worth $5-10k more.

I fell in love with my 335i because of its looks, performance, and unlike other cars, when I drive the 335 I feel like I become part of the car.

My 335 is the 3rd fastest car I've owned. But it's the only one in the top three that didn't try to kill me when I pushed it.

So...I'd say my test drive, and the resulting realization that this car really moves, handles the twisties like a pro, doesn't fight you, and doesn't try to kill you when you do something...questionable.
