Very strange, I tested it and it worked at first. Then it didnt. I just replaced it now and I believe we are good. Sorry.

nicobaires 01-31-2008, 12:47 PM good for me!!
joecautela 01-31-2008, 02:41 PM -nice, well done!
Layne 01-31-2008, 03:12 PM Good article! LOL @
And isn't the point of a big coupe to take up as much space on the road as possible while affording very little of that space to its occupants? Designers call it "intimacy."
amibuggnu 01-31-2008, 03:58 PM Woo hoo! Nice work Lsixer, you've been published! Good article too, your car looks a million bucks. And they took out your engine!!
Did you get to keep copies of the studio quality pictures they've taken of your car?
Regards,
Ellis

Ol'6erGuy 01-31-2008, 07:35 PM Absolutely premium article!! More than just a tinge of preference to the old skool E24. :redspot
Seeker 01-31-2008, 08:24 PM To say BMW was concerned about noise levels in the '80s, though, is like saying the band Poison was concerned about respectable haircuts.
Glad to hear this is normal.. I started to worry a little bit that mine was a tad on the noisy side.. lol
jeffcfp1 01-31-2008, 09:37 PM Great article and beautiful E24.

HayekFan 01-31-2008, 10:12 PM 100% cool. Your car looks great.
BTW, I thought this was a good observation by the writer:
""The E24 6-series is so enduring because it is simple, elegant, and just slightly unbalanced: The large greenhouse almost threatens to overtake the bodywork, and you just can't stop looking at it.""
The 6er's tall greenhouse and thin pillars is super distinctive. It's what makes the 6 look like a 6 and it's why the new 6 with its modern high beltline and low greenhouse really doesn't look related.
Mr. BMW 01-31-2008, 11:17 PM Very good article. Thanks for the find.
M.Rad. 02-01-2008, 10:51 PM And that beautiful interior....WOW! (Mine doesn't look nearly that good, but I love her anyway, and she still gets looks, thumbs and comments.)
Thanks for "representin'" us all!

M.R.
MaitreG 02-01-2008, 11:35 PM Nice article.
I am still trying to get over how they changed the car. The older version has a panoramic view but the essence of the car is still there minus the center tail pipe.
dm635 02-02-2008, 02:04 AM You represented us well. The 6 looks great. Good job.
6er is only ~3800lbs :confused
Lsixer 02-04-2008, 06:40 PM Thank you all again, you are very kind. I have some pre-shoot shots that I took from my digital. Hope you enjoy!
Ready to go to the shoot!

MaitreG 02-09-2008, 10:21 AM Pssssssssst....., the beautiful 3.5 L airplane engine in the picture belongs to the 735 and not the E24.
Do you use spacers on your wheels?
How much front strut clearance do you have?
Lsixer 02-15-2008, 04:27 PM Pssssssssst....., the beautiful 3.5 L airplane engine in the picture belongs to the 735 and not the E24.
Come again?
Do you use spacers on your wheels? Nope. All stock.
How much front strut clearance do you have? Not sure, again its completely stock.
Sorry not much help.
CrazyBimmer 02-16-2008, 04:03 AM Car looks fantastic!!
joecautela 02-16-2008, 08:50 AM Adam, congrats! How was the experience dealing w/ the magazine people, were they cool? Did they drive your car at all or rely on magazine data?
jmenacker 02-16-2008, 09:39 AM Congrats Adam - The car looks wonderful in the article. There's nothing like a little motivation to really clean your baby up. Good read, nice pics, great cars.

tsjazz2002 02-17-2008, 01:51 AM Nice read! Buuuuuuuuut I think as you look at the pictures the original design far exceeds that of its offspring. Yes, the child is more refined and luxurious but I can think of many cars on the road today that share like lines and design as the new 6. When you look back at the original, it was and is exactly that, original! I have had many cars over the years to include several BMWs and Mercedes from 80s to 90s to 2000s but no car has ever given me that "smile" effect like my 88 635CSI. It’s full of bug-a-boos and other nuances yet it never seems to disappoint. Even when it will not start I sit in the driveway smiling!
I've never driven a new 6. I have little doubt that its comfort and performance far exceeds that of my 635 still you couldn’t convince that in a straight up trade that I wasn’t losing taking the new over the old. The engineers of BMW created a fine automobile with the new 6 series. The engineers of BMW created a timeless classic in the original.
muscam1 02-18-2008, 12:32 AM Nice article and congrats. Fine looking 6er...I've got a soft spot (a couple in my head - I think) for black 6ers.
Bimmerforums 02-23-2008, 06:34 PM Adam I just found this thread, Congrats!!!!
MaitreG 03-11-2008, 06:16 PM Sorry for the delay. I have never seen an E24 82-89 engine with the oil filter casing upside down as is in your pictures. The removal has always been done from under the car especially as the years progressed and more gadgets have been added. I only seen them on 1990 and onward 735s, 535s and the E24 stopped in 1989.
I have driven the new 6 reluctantly. Why reluctantly? This is because I did not want to get spoiled. You know the feeling, getting into other people’s car to find out that yours no longer cuts it?
As a 6’6”, I found the inside a little bit too snug, enclosed, no room to breath. Hit my head as I try to get out. The first thing that struck me was the front pillars that were obstructing my line of view creating blind spots compared to the panoramic view of my 89. Of course I loved it because it is after all a BMW, but the 8 impresses me more.
The trunk is but batteries, no spare tire is needed anyway with the new tire technology, and I wonder how much that would cost to replace when it, which looks like a couple if not more in series, goes dead.
Anyway, BMW has been growing on me for many decades, maybe this one will eventually.
The tire question pertains to the clearance between the tire and the strut. My 1989 E24, as soon as there is a play in the front suspension, my front tires begin to touch the strut. It is a scary thought at 70 miles per hour… lol. The rims are not the original metrics. They are BBS that I believe came from a 7 series and they look just like yours.
Thanks for your patience.
Euro635CSi 03-11-2008, 07:11 PM Very Nice Looking 6!! Congrats on having your BMW in the shoot!! Funny thing is, looking at the pic's of both interiors, I like the e24 much more! Hard to improve on an already sweet interior!
Lsixer 03-12-2008, 11:11 AM Wow, thanks again for all the nice comments.
It was a real honor to have my old 6 used.
Im really looking forward to the sharkfest this year, its gonna be pure heaven to be surrounded by all that history.
Thanks Z! And you really should drop by more often. :stickoutt
