I know this should be posted in the track car forum, but I feel like posting it here to get a more personable opinion, plus the benefits of any local deals someone may know of.

I'm going to be moving this summer, and I need to start thinking about a trailer for my track car. I don't have a lot of money, but I think I have a few options here.

1. U-Haul rental
2. Get a cheap one and then sell it on the other end and keep saving for the one I really want.
3. Get a moderately priced one that I'll likely end up keeping, though not my ultimate trailer (ultimate = open aluminum or enclosed)

I'm leaning toward option #1 or #3. If I go with #3, what do you guys think of this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=330207112377&_trksid=p3984.cWAT.m240.lVI (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=2518995&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Febaymotors%2Fws%2F eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26sspagename%3DSTRK%253AM EWAX%253AIT%26viewitem%3D%26item%3D330207112377%26 _trksid%3Dp3984.cWAT.m240.lVI) That's the coolest one I've seen yet for that ballpark price range. I know the auction is not over yet, but its pretty soon and so far the price is pretty dang good. I've also found those cool tilt bed trailers for as low as $2100 on ebay, but that's slightly higher than I can comfortably afford, though its not out of the question.

Anyway, anyone have any suggestions for me or know of any local trailers available that might fit the bill? I've already been searching on craigslist over the last month and haven't found anything interesting in my price range.

Michael,

That ebay one looks pretty cool for a $1000 racecar trailer... Logistics seem a problem tho' - how do you get your 02 to Ohio, or do you plan to bring it here first?

Tom

ps: sorry to hear you're leaving - was looking to meet up sometime.

I messaged the seller about meeting him half way like St. Louis, MO. According to Google that's about 12 hrs away vs 18 all the way to Columbus, OH. I would just go and pick it up in my truck and return. I'm still waiting on his reply.

I'm just wondering how often these neat ones pop up on ebay. I hadn't looked in a few weeks and then I go on there last night and found this one. Its still premature for me to get a trailer because I really don't know where I'd store it except maybe Peterson AFB trailer/camper parking.

Yeah, I wish I got to meet you and see your car too. For me its been one thing after another these last 3.5 years that I've lived here. A major lack of funding has left me with a perfectly good 2002 stuck in the garage the whole time. This year its turning out to be the same. The '02 group has only seen me in a 2002 once. The rest of the time I'm the guy with the M Coupe and it always kind of sucked that way.

sometimes you can visit the race forums and find trailers for sale and some other areas like that.

If you want a enclosed trailer i would use a dually to pull it instead of a regular truck. You will get tossed arround with an enclosed trailer and not to bad with a open trailer.

That one on ebay looks pretty good and even if you find a flat bed trailer that is pretty long you can always build a front box like that on it..

The seller of that one on ebay doesn't want to meet half way, and I don't blame him, so back to my search. I have a lot of time to figure this out. I expect to move between June and August this year.

If anyone has a line on one that fits my criteria, let me know. I'll keep browsing ebay, craigslist, and race forums as powellsd suggested.

Get a horse trailer at tractor supply? 2002's are small enough :)

Um, negative unless the driver stays inside for the ride.

Look around on CL ebay and some of the racer forums you should be able to find a good used open deck for 1k-1200. Uhall sucks they wanted 850 for a week to go from MI to MT. Hell you dont need a Al. one a you have more than enough truck for a 02 and steel frame trailer.

Hey by the way how you liking the truck, you went to tx to get didnt you? Had some miles too IIRC??? I finaly found mine this summer.

Edit I found you 1 1800 bucks. Not far from me.

The truck is doing great. We had a few unexpected issues to fix with the glow plugs and harness, but since then its been treating us well. Its really fun to drive in the snow but kind of boring when its dry. Nothing I can really do about that since I like fast low cars with manual transmissions.

That trailer seems a little pricey. I can find those all over the place for that much or cheaper. I'm pretty set on finding one like the one I posted above which has a wheel rack and some type of small storage box on the front. Thanks anyway for helping look. That's what this thread is all about.

Good site. I've been talking with the seller of this one. http://www.racingjunk.com/post/1094246/18-Open-racecar-trailer-with-custom-box-.html The brakes are on one axle. 16" wheels with 8 ply tires in good condition. The box is aluminum and has hail pings in it from the driver getting caught in a hail storm once.

The seller said they'd let it go to me for $2200. I'm definitely interested. I just need to get on my tax return ASAP. Here's a few other pictures.
