Add about $480 to that invoice for training and MACO fees and I would guess you could get it at around $43,400-$43900.

so if I walk in there with a $42,000 check in my hand they won't sell me the car?

Well i'm not a BMW salesman.....but I would say no. Why don't you just try it and let us know the result....

I'm guessing that will definitely get you the WTF look, although only testing the theory will prove it right/wrong. Depends on dealer size, time of month, etc.

I would say if you walked in with a $43,000 check you'd have a much better chance.

Why would they, they'll be another guy right behind you willing to pay sticker.

Why would they, they'll be another guy right behind you willing to pay sticker. Why would they... maybe if they're not selling their allotment? They're going to hold out as much as they can, but that doesn't mean they aren't willing to sell at any price that's profitable. There are plenty of people on the forums who paid less than sticker. They make money even at invoice.

I agree though. They aren't going to be more enticed by the idea that you have a check in hand, just means that they're not financing you.
