So my belt for my power steering/ brakes went out on the freeway today. I ran immediately to Schucks and bought a new belt. Right now I am trying to get the new belt on but am having trouble taking off the A/C belt, I found the tensioner arm under the car to loosen the belt, but it still is no where near loose enough to pull the belt off. Are there two arms that loosen the belt?
I would like to get this taken care of tonight, so please help asap...
Thanks
Layne

Loosen the pivot bolt, and turn the geared adjuster. If thats not enough cut the belt, you can fix the a/c later.

I hate my life...
So I got the a/c belt off. But silly me I didn't loosen the pivot bolt when I was trying to get my new power steering belt on and stripped the teeth.
New question, where do I get a new pivot arm and bolt?

Go to this online parts catalog and select your car info (start at "Coupe"). Then look up the PS mounting parts under "Steering" and click on the part number for the toothed bracket in the right hand column and it will show you all of the cars this part was used on. Keep clicking and it will go right down to the year and build date. Use this to call around to the parts yards in your area to find one. It looks like it was used on 3 and 5 series as well, so you should have no trouble finding one.

do it the old fashioned way, pry bar and a wrench

I don't really want to stretch the belt more than necessary. I hear they snap easier when stretched.
Strictly BMW ordered the wrong part Wednesday so now I have to wait till Monday to get my bracket... I miss my car, now I have to drive a big rapistesque '92 F250.

done it that way for over 20 years when I have to, Never seen one snap. FWIW, the parts CD is wrong on that one, it is supposed to to be a 13x810
