View Full Version : Oil for Euro B30,B32 engines
shalashaska1985 01-29-2008, 06:50 PM Hi guys,
I was wondering about the oil brands and grades we can use in our cars.
Ive tried the following.....
1. Shell Utlra 5W40...not that impressive+loud ticking noise
2. Castrol TWS 10W60...Really thick when clod+hurts our cars at cold starts.
3. Mobile1 0W40...good oil+flows great at cold starts.
Oh did anybody try the Castrol Edge 0W40??? it seems to be a very good oil considering the grade of the oil, and the fact that it has an impressive flow when temp. r really low.
M3EvoBR 01-29-2008, 09:27 PM I use Motul 300 V - 15-60W in Brazil
temps never below 15 degrees celcius

waaaay too thick, you will destroy Vanos.
I ran castrol edge 0W-40 up until recently, changed to royal purple 10W-40, either is fine, RP is group 4 synthetic, castrol is group 3
damnboy37 01-29-2008, 11:19 PM What about RP 15W-40? It gets cold here, we went from 40F at noon today to about 9F in 8 hours.

you need the first number to be lower, ie, 0W-40 rather than 15W-40
Dreamer99 01-30-2008, 02:35 PM I am using Amsoil 5W40 synthetic with good results. The temperature gets to -5C overnight (20'F) this time of year. I use this oil year round.
M Dizzle 01-30-2008, 07:59 PM was wondering the same.

tynashracing 02-01-2008, 06:52 PM I just read some info on Mobil Products website while doing a google search for class 4 synthetics.
The site is based in Australia. Nonetheless, they claim that their synthetics are pure synthetics.
Now, I've heard from numerous people that Mobil One sucks now. Why? Is it just the oil we get in the US? Is Mobil One synthetic no longer a class 4 oil?
Are there any "off the shelf" class 4 synthetics or are they typically just going to be website orders?
I've been running Mobil One 15/50 "Race" synthetic. I'm wanting to preserve the bearings as well as the vanos. This is a race car. So, a recommendation for brand and weight would be appreciated.

BMW dealers are only required to carry oil for the current models, and the one preceding it. TWS is the correct oil for current M cars and S54 engines as well, they are trying to sell you what they have, not what is correct. that info came from a person who's family owns multiple BMW dealer franchises. he recommended to me to continue to run group 4 synthetic 0W-40 to 10W-40 oil at all times, this is also the advice from "the oilman" in England from http://www.opieoils.co.uk/
