No alarm, the car was double locked, so he had to have been hanging out the door. The car was still locked when I got to it. Oh yeah and they stole my 8500 X50 as well. It was in my glovebox.

Well, I got your back on parts. Looks like your windows are tinted, let it be a lesson to everyone, tinted windows=car break in. Tint silences the sound of breaking glass, you'll never catch a car of mine with tint. And no dude, I'm not ragging on you for having tint, just giving you a hint why they may have picked your car.

Let me know what you need, do you have glass coverage with your insurance co?

Seriously though, what's with the sock in the glovebox? :confused

The sock in the glovebox has my navigation in it to keep it from getting scratched. And yes, they didn't steal the nav, probably because it was in a sock. I am not sure why they picked my car, I walked the parking garage and there were other cars with radar detectors on their dashboards and navigation along with tint. And those cars were parked in more hidden areas than mine.

It looks like the plug to the OBC may be slightly broken, but I have not investigated too much because the police are coming for prints shortly. This happened between 9am and 11am this morning.

Radar detectors aren't really worth crap in a pawn shop, and prices for nav units have drastically dropped over the holiday season. You need to think like a junkie, the thing that's going to bring the fastest buck is the nice head unit.

Wow, seriously? When I lived in JP the police wouldn't even come out to take a report for a break-in on a car. They'd tell you to call your insurace company, and come into the station to file a report. Good luck man, keep me posted.

I was in a class a few years ago where we had to come up with an anti-theft device that was cheap, effective, and foolproof. Others came up with things like sirens, immobilizers, codes, the normal sort of thing.

I came up with a taser seat / steering wheel, a pepper spray dome light, and the airbag option. I like the airbag option the best since it virtually ensures damage to the brigand and it used existing hardware. My group and I calculated the cost to be around 5$ for the additional hardware. An extension of this was the "non-ejector seat", which fired an airbag under the seat, snapped the seat all the way back, and didn't open the roof. Basic analysis suggested at least some crushed ribs, if not broken vertebrae.

I'm not nice to someone that breaks my car.

$60 for a window? That seems like too good of a price.

I think I got out for $300ish when mine was broken into. Thankfully just a detector, didn't even look in the glovebox and find the iPod.

Racerhoze

They came and dusted for prints and found some on the broken out window. I also talked to another guy with a 300ZX in our apt complex got broken into as well at an earlier date. So we went and raised some hell at the leasing office. There are no cameras in the garage though. I inspected the damage and I am worried about the cables attached to the climate control. I assume they were the ones that controlled the valves for feet, face, and windshield air. I think they are all broken and re-attaching them is probably going to suck judging by where they look to lead off to.

Good god that's intense... but VERY deserved.

"Vincent: What's more chickensh*t than f**king with a man's automobile? I mean, don't f**k with another man's vehicle.
Lance: You don't do it.
Vincent: It's just against the rules."

On another note, I've been thinking about getting an Alpine CDA-7998, with the face plate that folds away to show nothing but a flat black panel. Would that confuse thieves or would they know what's going on there?

but yeah as far as the tinted windows are concerned I HAVE to have them on my car, the temperature around here gets VERY high, and with a black leather interior tinting is a must.

Break ins aren't too common around here, cause it's an isolated country town, so not too many people would know about the folding away CDA-7998, but when I go to Adelaide or something it may be noticed... although through the tint you couldn't make out that there's a head unit there at all I don't think.
And I wouldn't be able to tell you what the percentage of the tint is, as it came from the PO like that.
Would there be any way for me to find out by looking at it, or would it just be all speculation.

i'm honestly very happy with my OEM radio, and i use a cassette adapter to plug in my ipod for trips. i never use cd's anymore, so there's no real reason to upgrade and the sound with the ipod/cassette adapter is good enough. plus nobody wants an oem head unit.

they only took that because they pried it from the dash and all that is what came out.
Most thieves are too lazy to get the 1/2 dozen keys you need to remove any radio without damage and resort the the jerk n pry and just take whatever comes out... I guarantee the obc and climate controls are in their trashcan right now.

morons stole a 1year old base model pioneer (deh-1500) from my wife's car last summer... thing was worth less than $15, and they rummaged hru the trunk looking for an amp, subs etc... didn't even bother to take the $50 tommy hilfiger baby shoes that were in there.

I pulled it from the old car and ended up buying a newer unit when I upgraded the current car. I would let go of it all for $100.....
