I'm just putting together my newly restored 17x8 stlye 5's and will be looking for new rubber. The current 17x7.5 are running 225/50R17 Continental tires and they are good, very quite highway tires but wondering if there is something a little stickier that others like that would be good for occasional
track days? I'm wide open.
Thanks,
Chris

I have the Bridgeston RE960 All-Season's and I'm very impressed with them. Sticky, quiet and handles bad weather pretty well.

Well if you are on a budget, and want something that will do the job adequately for that size, Kuhmo Ecsta ASX's arent a bad choice. I have them on my car (225/45/17) and they are great. Quiet on the road, nice and sticky too. Not to bad at all in the wet either. And i picked my set up for $83/tire. I got them off of tirerack.com You can have them shipped to wherever you get your tires mounted and balanced.
That is my experience of a tire in those sizes on these cars. Ive only had one time when they didnt give me the grip i expected haha. But the tires were cold, as well as the pavement. Even so, i was able to get the car under control again.

For the ultimate in summer performance in both wet & dry, I have found that Bridgestone RE-01Rs are outstanding. Will not handle winter driving of any type though.

OT: The style 5's don't come apart do they? I'm looking at getting some 18's and I had thought they were 3 piece bolted together but on looking closer at the pics, I think they are 2 piece and riveted or something. Or are they actually only one piece?
I think the BF Goodrich G-force sport are a good value. A friend (with an e30 M3)reccomended them and I bought some for my e21 but thanks to a Discount Tire wheel bending fiasco, they'll dry rot in my living room before I get to try them out.

There are two types of style fives, one piece and two piece. The two piece wheel can be dismantled as the center is bolted to the barrel (rim). If you are planning to disassemble a BBS Style five wheel, you should research the web for rebuilding advice. Improper reassembly could be very dangerous.

-Jeff, I had those Kumhos on an Alfa Milano, and they were very very good, though they never got tested in the winter snow as the car got run over by a Ford Excursion and was pronounced DOA. I've been running Conti Contact Sports on the mighty Buick with exceptional handling in the wet and snow and very quiet. They're around $130/pc. So now I sold the Buick on friday to an old flame and the 6, Otto, is now my daily, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna try the Bridgestone Potenza Goo9 in a 92H rating 225x50x16. Seems like they're getting good reviews all over. $120 mounted/bal/installed and that'll get me 50% off a four wheel alignment, so that's cool in my book. Jaust as soon as the spacers get here, Joe

Quiet, sticky, smooth, good price.
They are the "3rd member" of Bridgestone/Firestone, sort of a named generic.
Filled them with nitrogen, never had to add anymore N in 6 months.
