OK I see now, you are 17 and perhaps this is your first car and you are losing staus because it a is an old BMW AND not a 540i. This may apply to you as well Erick. Not sure. That said, IMO, debadging says a lot about your own self image. Just my opinion.

Getting older/growing up with different priorities will take care of over sensitivity to one's status. At least I hope so. :)

Touching up chips takes patience and practice. Some people say their GF's or wives do the fill in better since they have more experience and patience for such. Fingernails, lashes, eyeliner etc. My wife can sneeze while continuing to do her eye makeup. Once the paint is filled in you can buff the rest out. Check the other post too. Actually, I'll just repost what I wrote in the other post, here...

I bought my touch up paint from Paint Scratch because I bought some aerosols at the same time. BMW tubes should match well enough for chips if you car hasn't been painted too many times. You'll have enough stuff to do touch up on every car you own for the rest of your life, or go into business.

I'm old and I like de-badging. I also de-chrome most of my project cars as well. It's a street rod thing, some may not understand.

You're reading waaaay too far into this one.

First thing I did was debadge mine. Now the trunk is symetrical (remember that the human eye is pleased for symmetry) and it leaves people guessing what it is. I get people asking me if it's a three series or a seven series. Nobody can "pigeonhole" the car without it.

It looked so good that Dad debadged his E38 740iL right after I did mine.

Ok, so I dont want to start a new thread about this but I've been wondering, so I'll just hijack this one for a sec. I know this license plate surround thing isnt oem, is it most likely made by M-Tech?

I'm pretty new to the bmw world, but m-tech makes lots of parts for our cars and that is their logo correct? ///M?

I dont want to act like I am an M5 if I'm not, so am I wrong for having this, or is it just another company that makes parts for our cars.

Sorry if that makes no sense, I dont want to be a poser:D

MTech is BMW's own Motorsport department, it's not aftermarket.

That is an M5 plate filler. Originally on E34 M5s. I have one too, it's one of my favorite pieces.

The only thing ///M you can't put on your car is the ///M badge or ///M5 badge. That makes you look like a poser.

Individual M-tech (short for BMW M-Teknik) pieces are fine as long as you're not trying to fool anyone, i.e. stuffing your crotch

If you look at old classic 50s street rods/customs, they removed everything including door handles etc. I realize it is a style/point of view. Just not my cup of tea to debadge.

Now I will not go into the old old car I had with a molded in antenna (and other unmentionables) I did from Bondo/plastic that cracked in 6 months. I ruined the car.

That's called "shaving" the car. I would never shave door handles, or even the BMW badge unless it was a heavily-modded car.

The badge-delete is a factory option in Europe, BTW...quite common.

hmm, i debadged mine as the badge was just too dam big....
525TD looked horrible on the back tbh

To Debadge......
Hair dryer... she will moan that your taking it too your car but hey ho....
start at one end warming gently, be careful not to over heat and damage the paint or lacquer....
i used a plastic scraper/spatula like you get in tubs of filler, a nice thin plastic to try and slip under the edge of the badge and lift it, even though the glue is soft it will still be tough...
repeat until you get all the badge off. you will have a bit of rubber and glue lefdt behind, try to get most of it off by gentle heating, and careful scraping.
to remove the last of the glue etc use a tar spot remover and a rag, it will take some rubbing and re-applying. once its clean youll still be able to see where the badge was, i used a pain restorer to polish the area.

I like the badge on my Calypso. I debadged the old car since I didn't like the big-flat-upright "525i," and decided I'd like a badge of some sort so I got a 525i badge from a '94 model in the nice new italicized font and chopped it up. Hair dryer might work but I usually use a heat gun to de-badge cars. I would not recommend you sit there with a heat gun on the badge or it might run the paint around it. Just gently blow air on it, not keeping the gun in one place. Then use floss to remove the badge. easy!

I de-badged my 525 because I like the way it looks and like people guessing who are know BMW enthusiasts.

That's stupid and only goes to show how much you really know about BMW.

The Motorsport division makes parts for all kinds on non M cars. The ///M stands for Motorsport. I think any car that has motorsport parts has the right to wear that badge.

M3, M5, and any badge like those, are specific to the M series cars. No one but them should wear it.

There is a complete difference. You should increase your product knowledge before making posts like this.

And hell, who knows..... you might learn something.

And just to go a little further........ What about the various rims that are offered as factory upgrades, and other parts like steering wheels that are put on by BMW themselves. Are you saying they are not justified?

i respect your opinion, but i think that if any bmw has an m badge just because of a couple of bmw motorsport accessories, it would degrade the value of the badge and the car....
its just like putting an oettinger badge on an audi just because you have an oettinger exhaust. even though oettinger is not a subdivision of audi but it is in similar context with having an ///m badge for a couple of accessories; or even an acs badge just because u have acs wheels. i know about bmw's that are equipped with ///m accessories from the factories and they would have it labelled somewhere but not as a replacement for the car models' badge because it would not show the cars' true identity . i.e: 318ti with the sport package...

This has been a debate for ages, no need for the hostility.

If the car has a WBS VIN, then go ahead with the ///M badge. If it's WBA, no badge. I understand where you're coming from but respectfully disagree.

Steering wheel, MTech kit, wheels, etc. (which have the small ///M badge) are all okay. Just no trunk or grille badge.
