I was getting the snow brush out of my car today and when I opened the trunk I heard a hissing sound. When I looked around I noticed some bubbling on the cylinder and then the oil ran out. I guess the seal must have got very cold (ambient temperature was -32C, -45 with wind chill!!:help) and cracked. I guess it will go back to the dealer to get replaced. Is this a common occurance?

Well....on a good note, if this is the only issue I ever have I'll be very happy!

I had that happen on my e36 both for the rear trunk and the front engine bay hood. I only ended up replacing the ones for the front, as the one in the back only leaked partially and would only cause problems in the winter when it is sub freezing, and it knocked several people on the head several times including myself (a hatchback trunk opens way higher). Mind you that only happened when the car was 6-8 years, you either had a bad part or it was exposed to more stress somehow.

Yes. Should be here by tomorrow. Woohoo :-\

I've not had problems with the gas struts so far this winter, but if they are going to fail thats likely when it is going to happen.

Hahah As soon as I read this I knew you have to be from Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton). Hahaha..

Did your engine start? Mine started on 1st try but it was definitely a hard start.

It started fine actually. And today we had -42 without the windchill (It's suppose to hit -51C with Windchill). The car started on the 3rd turnover of the starter which I thought was pretty good. Although I was driving for about 40mins before the car engine temp got to normal operating temp.

Although on the drive to work today the car would hit a lot harder on the bumps. I hope the shocks held up, I'll ask the dealer to give them a look when I bring it in for the trunk.

I hope this doesn't make its way east. We're having a mild winter by normal standards, except it is snowing a too frequently (read car always dirty). Hope I didn't jinx it. 2 more month and hopefully all this is behind us :redspot.

Don't bother, that is normal. They laughed at me when I did that with my e36 after I 1st moved to Ottawa. BMW does actually test their cars extensively in the Tundra, so they are no stranger to this kind of harsh treatment.

I got home from work at 6pm yesterday, and I am off work today to I never went to start my car till noon and due to -45C temps for two days my car would not start and I had to boost it...and it did not like the cold start at all!!:(
