View Full Version : '98 328is Black on Black - Runs great $5,950
GeilM 01-28-2008, 02:22 PM NEW PICS ADDED
I have my '98 328is Coupe (2.8 liter) for sale; $5,950. The car is black on black, 5-speed, with 156,000 miles. The interior was tan and I have completed the entire swap to black except for the headliner and rear window panel due to time. All the parts to complete the swap come with the car including the headliner, sunroof panel, visors, oh-shit handles, etc. I am also including a complete '98 M3 suspension (shocks/struts, sway bars, strut collars, etc). I also have a brand new set of '98 M3 H&R Springs to go with the suspension upgrade. The aftermarket part on the car include:
- Dinan Cold Air Intake
- M3 Front Bumper
- M3 Exhaust
- M3 shift nob
- M3 floor mats (brand new never used)
- Rear adjustable camber arms
- Borbet wheels with Blizzack winter tires (mint coindition)
- New Hanook '19 tires and rims come with the car (wheels are very curbed)
- Brand new Blacked out Grills
- Alpine CD player w/crappy stock speakers but it sounds great.
Here is a list of the recent (past 3 months) work done on the car:
- New Brembo slotted/drilled rotors (front and rear)
- New Hawk HPS Brake Pads (front and rear)
- New Goodridge Steel Braided Brake Lines (front and rear)
- New Cabin Filter
- New Dinan air filter (for cold air intake)
- Mobil One oil change w/oil filter - every 2,500 miles
- New RTABs with Ground Control Shims
- New Plugs
- New Headlight bulbs
- New drivers side rear wheel bearing
This car runs very strong and has been a great daily driver and airport car. The exterior has a few dings and the car is a little rough around the edges, but looks great going down the road; I would say the exterior is a 7 out of 10. It pulls like crazy, and runs and idles very smooth; never had any problems. The interor looks brand new except for some of the floor moldings along the door/carpet but they are very inexpensive. The black leather seats seats look like they came right out of the factory (manual seats).
I have the clear Illinois title in hand. The car was a rebuild due to water damage (absolutly no body damage) about 9 years ago when the car had less than 40,000 miles on it and has been completely inspected and cleared as clean ever since. The Illinois title is a clean title
If you want a great car at a great price this is one that I would not pass up. Not sure what more I can say. If you want to read up on my feedback I suggest you visit m3forum and look up "Synthetic" as I did most of my buying and selling there when I had my E46 M3. I am always open and honest about what I sell.
Please feel free to PM me with your e-mail and I can send hi-res pics of the car. I am going to try and clean the interior tonight/tomorrow and will send pics of that as well.
Thanks
Bryan
trackbball21 01-28-2008, 04:43 PM interior pics?
igorok 01-28-2008, 05:17 PM would you consider a trade?
ABC123abc 01-28-2008, 06:41 PM Unable to PM you. Send pics of interior, trunk and engine compartment to:
ruim@uniquesys.com.
A WEIKEL 01-28-2008, 07:58 PM also send to:
bmrwrld7@yahoo.com
GeilM 01-28-2008, 08:11 PM I will get some interior shots tomorrow or later this evening if my camera flash works well enough. Sorry if my PM isn't working. Not sure why that would be the case.
Might be open to a trade, what do you have.
Also, I have the fogs and brackets that come with the car.
Thanks
EuRoStuNNaNH 01-28-2008, 09:06 PM very nice i need more information on this very interested
GeilM 01-29-2008, 01:15 PM Guys, I appologize for beinga slack on this, but I will be e-mailing and posting pics soon. I always question why people list a car and then don't have all the pics immediatly. I washed the car the one day it was nice enough so I took pics and listed the car on the weekend. Now that work is kicking my ass again, I can't get the time to get the car vaccumed and interior shots taken in the daylight. I will be e-mailing and posting soon, so I appreciate your patience. Still don't know why I can't get PMs...
PocketPlayer 01-31-2008, 04:48 AM Yup...interior pics...
Shoot straight...would this car drive to CA w/no probs? What does it need to be in A+ condition mechanically?
I want a blk on blk coupe, 5sp '94-97
Would rather pay you now than pay Bob at the local shop later.
GeilM 01-31-2008, 07:48 PM I can't see why the car wouldn't make it anywhere, it runs great. My only issue with the car is the suspension is super soft as it is still stock which is why I bought the M3 upgrade and the new H&R springs. Both set's of tires have less than 1,000 miles as well. Pics of engine bay and interior coming...
GeilM 02-02-2008, 07:58 PM Sorry it took a few days, but here are some interior shots and some engine bay shots as requested. The trunk is full of parts and things so I will clean that out and take some pics as soon as I get a few more minutes.

GeilM 02-04-2008, 07:57 AM Bump
GeilM 02-04-2008, 04:34 PM Guys,
Love to get some feedback on what you all think on the car/price. Also, the interior pick of the passenger interior door panel looks bad because I don't have the hadle trim on it. I actually bought a nicer door panel, speakers, and a new handle ring that will all be going on when I get a chance.
Thanks
I think the car looks good, and your price is fair. Sadly the economy is imploding around us, and that might be why cars appear to be selling slowly at the moment. My daughter has just wrecked my e36, it might be totalled, don't know yet. I keep coming back to your car as one of two or three possibles if and when the insurance money comes in, but I'm also thinking that it might be wise to go back to just one car and bank the money in these uncertain times. I'm not really helping, am I? But I wonder how many others there are out there like me, who a couple of months ago might have jumped at this but now think twice.
Anyway, nothing wrong with your price and the presentation of your car. I hope you sell it very soon at the price you want. If not, when that cheque arrives I might still be tempted.
GeilM 02-04-2008, 09:49 PM Bummer about your ride. I do appreciate the perspective. I am in no hurry to sell the car, but I did think I priced it at an amount that would be really easy to digest. I will keep it out here and keep enjoying it until I sell it, than it is on to an auto trans so momma can drive it too. Good luck with the insurance adjusters; they can be trouble or your best friend depending on the day...
GeilM 02-06-2008, 02:50 PM Bump for a great ride...

how far are you from Univ of chicago..??
GeilM 02-06-2008, 08:38 PM Well, as a Northwestern guy I try not to think about that too much, but probably about 40 minutes w/o traffic or the 12 inches of snow we are getting tonight. I am in Naperville, straight west. Also work in Oakbrook off 88 which is a slight bit closer.
GeilM 02-07-2008, 01:23 PM thought I would throw another offer in. I will cover your ticket to fly out and pick up the car (including transport from airport to my house to get it) if you need to fly in. The price is already extreemly fair so I am not interested in dropping that.
Gadzooks, you are tempting me!
pbclax423 02-08-2008, 12:42 AM do you have a list of things you have changed, repaired, or otherwise ... with on the car? As in everything that didnt come from the factory... etc. Very interested, may be able to arrange something before the months end.
GeilM 02-08-2008, 08:55 AM Here is a list of what's been done that I can recall:
1. All new rotors, calipers, Hawk HPS pads, steel braided brake lines.
2. Complete interior swap to black (a few things still need to be installed like headliner but every part is included)
3. Complete tune-up and oil change (every 2,500 miles with Mobil 1) includes a fuel filter that I have not had time to install
4. New Drivers side wheel bearing
5. New Dinan air filter (for cold air intake)
6. New M3 bumper
7. Installed M3 rear shocks from the suspension upgrade
In addition that car comes with a complete '98 M3 suspension (sway bars included) plus a brand new set of H&R sport springs for the '98 M3 suspension.
I drive the car every day and it is very fast and never misses a beat. Only the soft (original suspension) is annoying. If I still have the car when it gets warm I will swap that first, before the headliner. Both are relatively easy for me to do.
Hope that helps, PM me with any questions.
Also, this car is well worth the money. I had someone low ball me and that is simply a waste of both our times. I think it is easy to see that this car for the asking price is a deal.
Thanks
Bryan
mpower91 02-09-2008, 10:16 PM also very interested. def keeping you in mind. might be in chicago next weekend. high miles, but almost exactly what i want.
GeilM 02-11-2008, 06:54 PM Bump for a solid ride. Would be open to adding in my X-Brace as an incentive. Just think, a '98 328is with new interior, new brakes all around, a fres tune-up, new tires ( a set of snow and a set of sport tires), M3 suspension, M3 exhaust, dinan intake, and an x-brace all for $5,950.
dr bob 02-12-2008, 07:07 PM Your rims. How crubbed are they? Any closer pictuars of them?
GeilM 02-12-2008, 07:09 PM Daily bump for my Bimmer brothers...
an1mal33 02-13-2008, 03:10 AM i would also like closeups of the wheels
GeilM 02-13-2008, 01:17 PM I will post pics tonight. They are in the garage so very easy to get them out. The wheels look good from 10 feet awayt, but close up they are rough.

kudosmog 02-13-2008, 01:33 PM I wish it was in NC!

ok, here's the million dollar question: How much rust?
Could you send me some pics of the trunk floor (without the carpet and the spare in there). Also would be nice if you could take pics of under the carpetwork inside the car.
I can come down and get it in a week. I have a 2001 honda civic coupe if you're interested in a trade. Let me know:
aalizad@gmail.com
or just pm
GeilM 02-14-2008, 11:36 PM I will get pics of the tires/wheels in teh garage and pics of the trunk without the carpet. There is absolutly no rust under the carpet in the car. I pulled the entire interior, vacumed and cleaned it out when I put the new black carpet in. Taking that back out again to ge a picture is a lot of work. Hopefully the pic of the trunk w/o carpet will prove that to you.
As for NC, I can cover your ticket to fly out and help with gas; this thing gets great gas mileage. Much better than my supercharged E46 M3 did!
quickguy 02-15-2008, 03:38 AM Any interest in a 1998 GTI VR6 with 85k, meticulous maintenance/tastefull mods (refreshed transmission w/ new syncros and LSD diff, Bilstein race suspension, new clutch, magnaflow exhaust, intake, chip, MKIV style headlights, Kamei grille, Euro front lip, + more, no major body imperfections, car is in overall good shape) Just as fast as an S50 m3 and handles awesome, very reliable and a great daily, lmk what you think.

Local too!
GeilM 02-15-2008, 09:11 AM That's a sweet car, but I gotta get an auto trans and 4 doors for momma to drive. Likely a new 328i. Very much appreciate the offer. Good luck.
GeilM 02-19-2008, 04:14 PM Look slike I will be keeping this guy and using it as a third car. I am open to trading for something with auto , preferably an M3 (trade plus cash). I will be open to any interest if people come by this thread so please let me know. I might repost for a trade.
Thanks
an1mal33 02-19-2008, 06:32 PM never got those wheel pics. dunno if you are still open to sell it, but i might be still be interested if you lower the price a bit.
GeilM 02-19-2008, 07:08 PM My work travel schedule is what's killing me. Need to be in TN the rest of teh week, Palm Springs Sun - Wed. and then Mexico. No excuses, just too crazy. I will try and get the kids to bed and then post the pics before I leave. always open to a reasonable offer.
Thanks
tybrones87 02-19-2008, 11:15 PM Man... I like this car. I wish you were just a little closer
GeilM 02-23-2008, 04:36 PM Okay, so I finnaly got a few minutes to get pics of the extra set of 18s and tires plus someone asked for a pic of the trunk well under the carpet to prove there is no rust on the car. I did my best to get a pick but all you can really see is my lame attempt to wipe the little bit of grime off. The rest is dirt/grime no runst under there. I took pics of the worst wheels (curbed) and the tires to see that they are brand new. I car is running great and sitting most of the time at the airport unfortunatly. If anyone would like additional pics, just let me know and I will take them when I am home. I just got in last night and I fly out again tomorrow 8am to Palm Springs and then Mexico (all work no play) and I will be back Thursday to take them.
Again, if someone is interested I will cover their one way ticket to pick up the car and drive it home. Might make it easier for someone to have it work out.
Thanks

graywolf316 02-23-2008, 04:44 PM if only you were local....this would make a great track car!
GeilM 02-23-2008, 04:55 PM Actually part of me is considering keeping it becaue it would make a great E36 Spec car. Crazy how no on is picking it up, I originally figured I would list it for around $7,500 but opted for a low price to get it moving.
I have to be in Huntersville on the 16th. If you wire me the money I can drive there and fly home?
elementalnature 02-23-2008, 05:54 PM Good afternoon mate. She is a lovely, lovely car. Let me tell you. Please email me some pictures when/if you get it cleaned. And tell me where you live. I'm in South Central Kentucky (yeah no jokes :P). If you're east and north I could fly up there, personally meet, hand you the money and be on my way. If you're farther away towards the west coast I'll have to have it shipped. So please email me some contact information and I'll work this out with all of the people on my end.
92318is 02-23-2008, 06:15 PM Have the radiator, expansion tank, t-stat, housing, and waterpump been replace?
an1mal33 02-23-2008, 07:46 PM that one wheel doesn't look crubbed, it looks tarnished. the damage goes inside the lip (or at least thats what it looks like).
foxfan50 02-23-2008, 08:01 PM Thought you were not selling it????? I have cash for you.
GeilM 02-24-2008, 01:47 AM Okay, so let me try an answer all the questions. 1st I am in Chicago (Western Suburbs) so not too far from central Kentucky; I just moved here from Lexington, KY so much love for the Bluegrass. The one wheel is actually rusty inside the lip. It was from the bad wheel bearing that I replaced along with the control arm, RTAB, axel, etc. when I bought the car. The woman was driving it but shouldn't have been. I picked it up on a trailer and drove it home. I then spend 6 weeks doing all the work I listed.
I am considering not selling as I have no real offers but am still open to a sale if a buyer presents themselves. I luckily don't have to sell it, just want to in order to get an Auto Trans. which would make my life easier with my wife.
I leave for the airport in 5 hours but will check here periodically over the next few days till I get back home. Best way to reach me is via a PM if you have specific questions. If I get a PM it is sent directly to my Blackberry via e-mail so I can respond quicker.
Thanks

How long of a drive from Champlain NY you think?
GeilM 03-04-2008, 05:04 PM My zip is 60563. You best best is just looking up Mapquest. I would assume it is a good distance.
Pletch 03-24-2008, 08:22 PM have you sold yet?
Gibber66 04-29-2008, 06:39 AM Love your 328 and hope it sells. Have you found the automatic you're looking for? If not, may want to look through Craigslist. Probably to far for you, but found the following listing that might interest you (I'm tentatively interested, but not in the market yet...daughter on driver's permit and I'm seeing how much they're running for):
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/656877471.html
Take care and hope you get what you need. Love the interior swap, did one myself. That's a labor of love.
Free bump!
Cheers,
Gibber
