It depends on the engine and performance features I guess. I'm not to excited about it, but for every bimmer, there is an enthusiast-base that forms.

The twin-turbo V8 makes up for the lack cargo space. $70K is a lot of cash though.

I sat in the prototype last year and they're hot.
They will come with a V8 twin turbo and inline 6 twin turbo

I drove behind one 2 nights ago going westbound on Wilshire Blvd starting from around Highland Ave to west of La Brea (towards Beverly Hills.)

I have to tell you that I was blown away by this car. I didn't even know what an X6 was until I tried searching online today to identify this BMW.

A lot of the taillights and the edges of the tailights were taped up, but it is clearly the X6 that I was following.

The X6 looks a heck of a lot more imposing than in those photos. In person, it looks like an enormous sports car. It doesn't look at all like an SUV. It gave me the impression of being some kind of ultra powerful half tank/half sports car. It kind of looks almost like a car you'd imagine from Mad Max and the thunderdome. It looks like it could run over your car! But, as imposing and large as it looks, it didn't even have a hint of it being an SUV. In fact, I originally thought it was an enormous 2 door because the roofline was sleek. I haven't been that impressed by a car design in a very long time.

Other than the current E90/92, Z4, and X5, I haven't been too crazy about a lot of BMW's car designs, but I am completely in awe of this X6. I thought Porsche's Cayenne would be the closest thing to an SUV that I would like, but I think BMW may have made just about the most interesting and exciting car in years from any manufacturer.

Until I see one with person, I'm gonna say subtract 1 From X6, and I'll take it.

I gave up on the look of the new X6.
Sorry, but Im just gonna keep my x5. Though, its only 4.4i version, I still like the look for X5 bit better than new X6.

After seeing this car on the road, I realize that this X6 doesn't really compete with the X5 or other SAV/SUV's. It really is in a category of its own. It is one imposing sports car, more reminiescent of the batmobile on Batman Returns.

I had been throwing around the idea of getting an M3 but may consider an X6, now. The X6 will compete more with other sports sedans than SUVs IMHO.

basic shape reminds me of a pontiac aztek

Wow! Chris Bangle did another fantastic job at Pontiac mimicry, this time really nicely cleaning up the lines of an Aztek...<sigh>. C'mon BMW! Wake up!

In person, it doesn't look anything at all like the Pontiac. It actually looks more like a Porsche concept car because of its 911-like back.

I just dont get this thing. It's not a practical suv or sports car, maybe something to compete with the cayenne, but do those even sell?

The Cayenne is Porsche's best-selling car.

I like it but it looks like it would be hard to see anything out that rear window from the drivers seat.

I like it. I need an SUV for transporting large objects but the x5 is too big for me.
I'd rather be driving the 5 series but this seems like a good compromise.

I think the X6 weighs about 5% less than the X5 and is built on the same chassis. I would not call the X5 too big compared to the X6. The X5 is pretty nice -- we just bought an 08 with the 4.8. A twin turbo V8 would be nice, but we had to draw the line somewhere. Do you have tall objects or just long ones? A sedan with fold down seats does pretty well and a wagon does even better, and both weigh 1000 lbs + less and can be had with the twin turbo six.

I am not sure about this one.... If you want an SUV then get one with some space (x5). Otherwise 3's and 5's are great cars. It still looks interesting though.
