View Full Version : Cop let me go...Im grateful.
Bucketman 01-27-2008, 08:33 PM So I was out last night cruising on 114. An Irving cop pulls me over. He says he was trying to catch up to me and had me at about 85 (at least, for sure). :cop
He takes my license and goes back to his car. After about 5 minutes he returns. He says"You are free to go, just slow down, ok?" I could not believe it. He had me dead to rights. I thanked him.
Wow.
Anyway, I am still trying to figure out what God is trying to tell me. For sure I will not be pushing it in Irving.
Our cars will blister the road with minimal effort. I have got to stay on top of the speed.
I am usually the kind of guy who bemoans the police. I have never had a guy let me go before. I have nothing but gratitude today. :blueball
waapples 01-27-2008, 08:38 PM God is telling you to obey the law! :)
Glad you got off w/o trouble! :)
roadking21 01-27-2008, 08:43 PM Always pays to be polite, admit your guilt (if you are...), and hope for a break!
UberWasser 01-27-2008, 08:59 PM At least you had a person who can use discretion pull you over. I got snagged by one of Tucson's new roving speed cameras not long ago. Barely over the "threshold" used by the camera and I get a full blown ticket in the mail.
Here comes Defensive Driving...
I've started using the cruise control more often.

I think you could have gotten out of that ticket. CA has a website dedicated to defeating the camera ticket. I don't know what the laws are in AZ, but you probably could have contested it.

God is too busy with more important stuff and wouldn't bother to give you a sign about your driving habits.:stickoutt
Seph540i 01-27-2008, 09:44 PM You can beat the camera easy. Just state that it was an invasion of your privacy. They'll more then like drop things after you say that.

In CA it was something about stating that you are "not willing to admit it was you behind the wheel" and saying no more than that, period.

You know, most of that is right, but man, I've NEVER had luck being honest and admitting guilt. In fact, each and every time I've been *ahem* been accosted, I was wholly polite, courteous, honest and helpful, and I've NEVER been let off. Maybe I just have crappy luck... I subscribe to being nice and polite now, but not admitting to anything.

Yeah, I know they're pretty easy to get out of, but since this is my first ticket I can take Defensive Driving (you can take it once every 2 years here). If I went to court to contest it, I would waive my right to take that and would also have to pay court costs and other fees if they upheld the ticket, so my already $191 fine would end up being a good bit more than that. So now I just have to pay $120 for Defensive Driving.
I'll look more in to my options to fight it next time, if there is one. And I hope there's not. I now know what to look for...the only reason they caught me was because the white SUV on the side of the road in the dark wasn't on my list of things to worry about when only doing 10 over.
Plus, the police department keeps a list online of all the times and places they plan on parking it. I am going to make it my homepage here and at work and check it often :D
jszrom 01-27-2008, 11:19 PM Dude 114mph, you are very lucky!

He was cruising on Highway 114.:rolleyes
540IForMe 01-28-2008, 10:48 AM I know how you feel. About a month ago, I was taking a vehicle we have on this lot down to a sister lot to pick up a car I was trying to sell. I was in a big rush because I had the people coming in to look at it so I was booking it. I turned down a road I usually fly on(80 in a 55) but before I got the 55, I got pulled by an unmarked Impala.
Young guy gets out and I automatically think I'm getting a ticket from some punk. We go through the whole, "You know why I pulled you? No. You were going 51 in a 35. Wow, I didn't even realize". He takes my license and sits in his car. Comes back, "Mr. Dawson, you've got a clean record, I'm going to do you a favor and let you go". My heart slowly found its way back into my chest.
I know how grateful feels.:D
Orxan4ik 01-28-2008, 10:59 AM Check this out:
Summertime, Saturday afternoon, I got my bimmer not too long ago, so as I'm pulling on the main road WITH NO CARS on it I get a lil sideways action. And I mean a little, maybe 1-2 seconds. Out of nowhere I get pulled over by an undercover minivan and get ticketed for an "unsafe start". I write a letter to a DA, get reduction to 0 points, pay $50 fine with no surcharge n I'm all set.
Fall, cruising on the NYS Thruway doing 75mph (cops dont bother 75mph traffic). Goin up a slight hill I get a KA band ahead, so I stay in the passing lane and slow down to 70. I get past him, he pulls me over tellin me he clocked me @ 81mph. Long story short, I get a ticket for some BS, no matter how polite I was and explained him that it isn't possible and that I clocked him way before he clocked me, he said he partially believes me so thats why he reduced the ticket - still 2 points tho. I go to court, DA drops the points but charges me $150 for the broken speedo and $35 suracharge - total $185
P.S. They give u smthn with one hand ($50 ticket for smthn I'm guilty of) and take it back with 2 hands ($185 for doing 5mph over the speed limit)... Go figure...
dbcafy 01-28-2008, 12:58 PM Orxan4ik,
You got pulled over by an "unmarked" Minivan???
Where was this? I never watch for minivans.
Dave
Naylor07 01-28-2008, 01:48 PM Cops are getting trickier, they use a lot of trucks in Kansas, mainly highway patrol though.
M3UOND 01-28-2008, 02:05 PM Broken speedo? How do you know your estimation of your speed was accurate?
12CoolDude 01-28-2008, 03:04 PM They're runnin unmarked Z28's here in NorCal and numerous other "undercover" vehicles. The age of legal entrapment is upon us...

Breaking the law is breaking the law (whether you think it is a cop or not doesn't make it right or wrong). Now, with that said, go out there and speed fellas!
P.S. I agree with Jamie about the OP's God not caring about his driving habits. :lol

Anywho, in MoCo MD they have photo enforcement minivans that park alongside the road. Easy to spot b/c they have a big orange reflector cone outside of it. BUT they are easy to ignore too. "The man" is always watching. :devillook
Oh.. Congrats on the cop letting you go.. 114? whew.. in VA they would have shredded your license in front of you, locked you up, impounded your ride and THEN things would have gotten ugly. That may be a bit of an exaggeration but you would be staring at about $2K in fines for sure and begging a judge to allow you to keep your license.
gumbi4u 01-28-2008, 05:47 PM There is not a ticket out there I cant defeat. But with the skills I possess, Im pretty much wanted in 5 counties in Jersey and plenty more in the surrounding states. Not wanted by the state, but wanted by the cops that I got over on. ALWAYS be polite. If its a deserved ticket, then its ok but if the cop is being a jerk, i will have his badge.
Yes I'm a penis and proud of it.

Syracuse, NY (its an upstate) It was a white Chevy minivan with the ladder on top, the only thing that'd give it away would be the strobes on the back side of the mirrors and the light bar on the inside of the windshield.
M3UOND, speedo is fine, he just wrote it up like that, so its a non moving violation - thus no points

Highway 114.... not 114mph.
M3UOND 01-28-2008, 11:17 PM In NoVA, cops often use unmarked cars that have been confiscated due to drug law enforcement. Then they go toe to toe with you at the lights and try to provoke you to race. Look to your left, see a ricer...with a cop behind the darkly tinted windows!
