Gentlemen I have been out of the country for the past 15 months. My 1988 635CSI has been in the garage since the day I left. It has not been started or moved the entire time.

Can you give me some suggestions on what I need to do before putting her back on the road? I am assuming that I should take it to my mechanic for a full A-Z inspection, fluid replacement and all that jazz. If the mechanic is 20 miles from my house do you think its ok to drive or should I have it towed? The car was running fine with the exception of some minor bug-a-boos prior to my leaving. Would love to hear some opinions of the matter?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim, I'd disconnect the battery and put a full charge on it. Use the low amp setting and give it time (24hrs should do it), check your fluids, top up what's necessary. Get your flashlight and scope the engine bay to make sure no critters made a home in there. I would then fire it up and immediately ease it out onto the driveway, just in case of f--e, shush, I didn't say that, but be ready anyways w/ a f--e extinguisher juuussst incase a fuel line has dried out and pops. Then at least the car's outside and the house is safe. Ask me why I say that! Let it warm up, make sure the thermostat opens and then go over to the gas station and air up the tires. IMHO, Joe ps, if it's an auto shift once the trans warms up then shift it thru the gears manually to open all the ports and ck valves...if std be careful be cranking it. If the disc is stuvk to the flywheel it could lurch if in gear...

Yes, do look for critters, up the tail pipe and pop the top on the air cleaner. They just love dark tunnels for their nests.
