I think I've found a new e30 318is. Few spots of surface rust and needs paint. Does anyone know of anyone that does this as a sideline business (ie cheap). Not looking for show quality but something better than I could do with a rattle can....Maybe I'll just do the $200 gig at Maaco or do John Deere Blitz Black and call it a day. Any leads would be appreciated.

Chuck,

I don't have any personal experience with someone doing sidelines body and paint work. However, one reasonable bodyshop that does restoration work is Fine Lines on Military Avenue.

There is a blue '75 2002 Automatic in the club owned by a man named Bruce (last name escapes me). He found a guy who did an excellent job of repainting this car (a Nissan blue color) in his garage. Chapter President Jeff Gomon would remember his name and have his contact information. Bruce joined the club in May of 2002, and he and his teenage son joined our chapter's Caravan out to Oktoberfest & stayed in the same condo complex in Frisco as most of the chapter members. I don't know if he still owns the 2002, or is still a member of the chapter.

I've seen this guy do decent work. It is a side job for him too.

I personally use Custom Image Motorsports in Omaha, it's no side business, but their prices are reasonable and work is amazing, especially when it comes to color match/blending.

everyone I know doesn't do "quick and easy" stuff... I'd go with Jon's recco...

Thanks guys...I have a little work ahead of me before body and paint. 1991 318is + S50 = where I will spend much time in the coming months. I just put my 1969 2002/6 on ebay. Reserve is high, so we will see what happens. Also, if anyone wants a 120K mile S50 for cheap let me know. I think I just bought 2 of them.

Also, looking for a 3.25 or similar LSD.

man, I'd look for a 325 to do the swap, the 318is is rare enough I would avoid cutting one up (metaphorically speaking) to do an engine swap... and an M42 w/ the right gears is a blast in an E30... not so much in the E36.

Nothing is sacred when it enters my garage. I can't find a 325 that isn't clapped out and the m42 has 240K+ miles and is on its last legs. Time for carnage to begin....
