I could use some help.

I recently put my x5 on a battery tender b/c I wasn't driving it much recently.

Anyways, it is fully charged when I take it for a very short drive today. After an hour, I start it up again to drive it home.

I come back 4 hours later and the car won't start. When I attempt to crank the engine, I hear a click click click and my headlights (full, not daytime) are flashing on and off in time with the click click click.

I end up hooking the x5 up on jumpers to another running car and after a few attempts, it starts.

Any idea what the problem could be? My local dealer told me my battery was fine when I saw him 3 weeks ago.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a dead battery to me. Your alternator could be bad, you could have a parasitic draw on the battery, or it could have just finally died. What dealer did you take it to?

I took it to BMW of San Diego for an electrical issue (parasitic draw)

Turned out the aux cooling fan for the engine shorted so they replaced the fan and capacitor for that circuit and tested the passive draw on the battery.
They give it a clean bill of health.

Would a bad alternator or a battery set off a OBC warning light??

Not always. The parasitic draw on the battery could have shortened its life significantly. Especially if it's the original battery. Cycling between a charged and non-charged state will destroy a battery - especially an old one.

P.S. You can bring the car to me at Cunningham, I'll take good care of it. :)

Thanks for the advice. Funny thing the car has been running fine since yesterday (2 long trips, 2 short ones)

When I hit the 90k service, I will give you a ring...especially if I get a m3 loaner
