What do you think about a DRL relay instead of the ZKW drls?

The DRL relay will have to be purchased from the dealer and it's about $90, you will also have to purchase some extra wires (have to be spliced in) that will fit in the existing connector so that the module you install works. I think it adds a nice touch to the car, I love my Canadian DRL Module.

Which do you think looks better? And do you have a diagram for the splicing?

Are city lights like DRLs but only work when the parking lights are on? If so, that's dumb. DRLs are on all the time (including with the parking lights on) and turn off when you turn on the lights. Check this site out.

DRLs are high beams run at half power. City lights are tiny little bulbs in the high beam that make the inner lenses [high beams] glow with parking lights and headlights on.

DRL's turn off when you turn the headlights on, cities stay on.

The what-we-call "city lights" are actually the parking lights on euro-spec vehicles. They do not have the amber parking lights in the front corners as required by the US.

To the OP, if I have to choose, I'll go with DRLs if I don't have CCFL Angel Eyes. But with CCFL AEs, it is better off without DRLs and city lights.

is that so? i did not realize that. if this is true then is it possible to disconnect the u.s. parking lights and just have the "city lights" as parking lights.

bear with me i've not looked into any of this or any wiring diagrams yet.

also, just so i'm clear, your saying then the corner lamps are just blinkers and do not light up when the parking lights switch is turned.

DRL's are the high beams run at about 70% power. and the module tends to cost upwards of $100 from the dealer. you can buy it for much cheaper from leatherz.com

Early 95 model E36's is stright plug and play.... later you have to wire things up, as to what I'm not sure. search it's been discussed before though.

It'll most likely be much easier for you to wire up the city lights from your ZKW's

I have a 8/94 build so I just put the new relay in place of the stock US high beam relay and wham DRL mod done.

City lights can be wired more than one way btw. The normal parking light tap into or ( which I will be doing) relay it up so it turns on with the dual euro fog switch and only gets power when the ignition is on to prevent accidents such as leaving them on. Its either this way or DRL rely.

yup, you got it. having been to europe and several parts of asia (where euro cars are euro-spec) and lived in an asian country with euro-spec vehicles, that's how it is.

Who cares who cares, which looks better? i want to see mad comparisons, im thinking for looks, any combo of switches can be wired up to do the same trick with half power w highs as running little city light bulbs, what LOOKS better? whos got some time to do some picture comparisons and post

DRL ftw, unless there's a way to turn off city lights when lows come on. HIDs + dim ass lights in the highs looks ugly as sin.

im gonna just get a real small clean looking oem as possible looking switch panel that controls each light by itself (parking lights, drl, low beam, full pwr high beam, and angels)

I've got drls and checked the voltage today and it was about 4 1/2 volts. I personally would like to get rid of them especially when I get both both sets of AEs working. The AEs are more noticable than the drls and detract from them imho.
