I have done a search on this so please dont tell me to do a search..... found one post where it had both sides of the fence. Some were saying it is wrong and blindds other drivers and some said it is ok and can be done in stock e36 plastic headlights. I know that it is better to do with projectors but wanted to know if anyone has had good experiences with this and if anybody has any pics.
Thanks

my friend did in in his old e36.
the only problem with it is that there is no projector... it just scatters the light. but it still light up the road verry well.
i dont know what type of kit he was running or bulbs.

Please don't install a HID kit into the stock reflector headlights.

It's going to be a disaster. Don't do it.

You'll be running around like you have just fired up flares on your headlight. Not helping your vision, might get you into trouble with laws, and people are going to get distracted.

Agreed. The stock reflectors will just scatter the light and you'll be a dick to people in front of you.

Ive got 8000K hid kit in my stock lights and have none of the said problems above. Its doable and it doesnt blind others, i made sure before i drove around with them on. It works but probably not as good as projector headlights. Ive had them on my car for about 2 years and no problems what so ever...Maybe im just lucky:help

Well .. what's the point of having HID if you can't use its full potential? You'll be glad if you use projector

Polish the stock headlights and do the 9005 HB trick (http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm) for more light from the OEM assembly. The other folks are right about poor pattern from OEM lights w/ HID.

My co worker did this and quickly bought projectors cause within a couple weeks he was pulled over 3 times for his headlights being too bright/not focused. i think he got one fix-it ticket.

Cough up the scrap for some ellipsoids, don't be one of those idiots who blinds oncoming traffic.

They look 23984293432 times better too :)

I have a 12000K kit on my oem lights, it's a ridiculously stupid thing to do...good thing I don't drive it at night, or rarely at all...I'd feel bad for other drivers.

+1, that 9005 swap makes the stock lights amazing in comparison to how they come.

At the end of the day though, Euro Ellipsoids prevail.
