View Full Version : Modifying 318ti (M44B19)
24seven 01-25-2008, 03:46 PM I've had my beemer for a while now and now want to do some mods for more power, torque etc. and was wondering what the best recommened / most effective mods are..
I've done a reasonable amount of modifying and tuning to cars before so no worries there :)
post away.
jekaio 01-25-2008, 10:44 PM its BIMMER
and a DASC
Downing Atlanta SuperCharger.
you can go stage 1/2/3. just depends on how deep your pockets are.
OR do a motor swap to a 6cyl
jeff318 01-29-2008, 05:26 PM or if your pockets are slim like most. just get exhaust/intake. dme software to get higher revs. lightweight flywheel and camshafts n better valve springs. thats the best way if u wanted to keep your 4cyl
Mad Machine 01-29-2008, 05:37 PM save your money on the intake... just do the "Fogg" modification to the stock one. It may not have the growl/scream of an open element.. but it works just as well
Bloodrunsdry 01-29-2008, 05:56 PM M50 Is prob. your best bet.
You can get a comp. swap from 300-500
dasc is around 3k

Bluebimma 01-29-2008, 09:40 PM Yes, bought mine for 300 and he bought his for 400 IIRC.
kickass95318ti 01-29-2008, 11:20 PM the best thing is intake, exhaust, chip. if u have the funds hit up Downing get a bigger exhaust intake chip.
Danny318 01-30-2008, 12:27 AM Yes, bought mine for 300 and he bought his for 400 IIRC.
a working m50 engine? damn. Are s50/s52' really really expensive then?
Danny318 01-30-2008, 12:27 AM I should swap sometime then, I was thinking it was gonna cost me like 4k to do an engine swap
Bluebimma 01-30-2008, 12:29 AM Check out my "project 325ti" thread in my sig...Its all documented. full swap in 1k.
kickass95318ti 01-30-2008, 01:02 AM its true he posted all his prices!! damn u blu!!
Bluebimma 01-30-2008, 11:50 AM ;)
kickass95318ti 01-30-2008, 09:38 PM the way blubimma did his swap was he got either ebay items or bargained correct me if i'm wrong blu!!
JedzE36/5 01-30-2008, 10:27 PM nobody wants M50/52 motors except us ti people. they can be found for $500.
campaiar 02-01-2008, 02:17 PM I'm a swap member too. Can be done pretty inexpensively for a M50. If your a serious power nut, S52 swap is an excellent option. You'll end up with a trunkless M3 that really angers M3 owners.
Hehehe..

Wish I could find a deal on a S52 for swap. :rolleyes
Bluebimma 02-02-2008, 03:50 PM When i was going to do the s52 conversion, there was a full m3 totalled from the rear seats back that sold for 1500. It had like 80k on it, full coilover setup and tons of goodies.
Wonderkid 02-04-2008, 11:22 AM guys i have a little e36 318i and i was wondering if it would be worth it buying a 318is or 318ti engine for it? i love my car, like the colour and it has sentimental value as it was my first car, i wanted to do as much as i can to make it faster but i dont want it to be deadly if you know what i mean...
im just not sure of what i can get to make it faster and where to get those parts from as i live in a small island in the uk and have to order everything from aboard (normally i order from usa but it takes weeks)
thanks
Bluebimma 02-04-2008, 11:25 AM Id probably search for a car close to what you have now in color and options but with the larger engine because the 1.8/9L engines arent that much better than what you have now.
Wonderkid 02-04-2008, 12:18 PM all i know is that the IS or the TI has 140 BHP standard which is good, but i think you are right, by buying a bigger engine i would have to consider the brakes, suspension, clutch, gears, etc etc, ill see, or i might just keep this one and enjoy it and then sell it and buy an e36 m3 :P which is my dream car atm (i know im cheap lol)
thanks
skyguy 02-09-2008, 02:13 AM hey have you looked into fogging your airbox yet?
there is a site out there (i cant link to because im a new member)
but you can search for in the forum just look for shawn fogg
anyway
its great for cars like ours, you know all show no go...
i added a "fogged airbox" to my ride not too long ago and i love it
it cost me about 20$ to make and took about an hour or two to make including buying the parts
so check it out, you have nothing to lose and it will give you a FEW more horsepower out of your lil' four-banger
best of luck
