Hi all,

I have a ’92 325is with CD43 HU that I’m trying to install a dice ipod integration kit on. I bought the ibus wires to plug into the back of the HU (pre ’96 did not have ibus) but have not found any instructions as to how to go about doing this. BSW told me that pin 7 on the CD43 is for ibus, so I’m good there. I just need to know which wires on my harness I can splice into for power and ground. The ground I assume is the brown one? Any ideas as to which wire turns the radio one? They are not labeled and this is the one BSW told me to splice into.

Have any of you pre-ibus e36s done this conversion?

Did you not receive my other PM?

iBus wire you have covered.

Brown on the little harness with the white iBus wire is ground. Hook that up to your harness.

The red wire is for power. Do you have a Digital Voltmeter to find a source for you to tap for this?

I got it, I was just looking for more specific instructions. ie. exactly which wires to splice into.

No, I do not have a Digital Voltmeter. I was hoping someone else on the forums had done this before.

There's no need to splice any wires, we already have a kit that has this covered for a complete Plug and Play solution:

DICE - SILVERLINE iPod Integration Kit for 3 Series/M3 95-99 (Radio Interface)
http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=25&products_id=1623

If you already have the DICE, then the correct wiring harness will make this Plug and Play, and not need to splice any wires:

Radio Connect harness for DICE iPod Kit (R17)
http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=25&products_id=664

Let me know if you have any further questions.

I already have the dice, but that harness is exactly what I need. I already bought the cables for the conversion though and would like to work with what I have. very nice harness though.

Can you, by chance, tell me which wire I can splice into for power?

I don't recommend splicing any wires. Get the correct harness (or kit) so there is no possible damage to your radio or DICE kit. You can always return the DICE kit you have and purchase the correct kit from us.

BMWs can be very expensive if something is miswired, especially if a multimeter is not used.

much thanks to both Halston and Tom, DICE kit is up and working perfectly. I decided to run the cable to the sun glass holder, although this may change in the future. I highly recommend both of these forum sponsors. One question though: when I turn the car off does this just pause the ipod? I assume it will keep charging but do not want to put more stress on the ipod than is necessary.

Early radios do not pause the iPod when the key is turned off, the source must be changed to AM/FM or CD in order for the DICE to get the "kill" signal.

would a CD43 count as an early radio?

CD43 is an early radio, yes.

Cool, thanks for the info, Tom. I guess I'll just hit the FM button before turning the car off.

Not a problem. Glad Tom was able to provide you with the plug and play solution for your particular install.
