on to my next problem...

okay, so we have the new RMS supercharger headers installed (slightly bigger primaries and collectors) - they fit great as far as the engine is concerned.

however, they don't really connect well with anything behind the headers. the initial plan was to install the supersprint resonator since it would bolt up nicely to my supersprint exhaust. nice plan, yes, but it no workie. so now it looks like we're going to have to fab up a track pipe section.

i'm not as happy about a track pipe section because i don't want the noise to be obscene. at least the resonator would help reduce the noise. i'm most concerned about idle, cruising and low throttle acceleration. i don't want to wake the 'hood every time i start the car. wide open can loud enough cause a heart attack. i am afterall here in god's waiting room - florida - and we need to thin the traffic a little.

-so what kind of options do i have for noise control?

-will a track pipe to a supersprint exhaust be as loud as i fear (window-breaking, teeth-rattling, ground-shakingly loud)?

-i've read a few threads on installing glass packs though people seemed mostly unimpressed.

-what about high-flow cats? i know it's like putting the cork back in an uncorked car. and my mechanic, who has worked on quite a few blown e36s, says i'd end up melting pretty much any after-market cats and have to replace them every few thousand miles (there's a waste of time and money - disposable cats!)

-any other thoughts?

I can't say this from experience, and every person's tastes are different, but I don't think this would be THAT loud. I actually think it would have a great sound, but what I think a great sound is ,might be too loud for you.

Exhaust questions are always difficult to answer as opinions vary.

i know it'll be louder than before. too my ear, i think it'll sound pretty good as far the exhaust note is concerned, buti don't want sound like a bad-ass chopper with straight pipes nor do i want to end up on the next segment of "nasty neighbors" on ABC Action News.

if it'll sound civilized under 4k rpms, i'll probably be happy.

You're right on the first one. Glasspacks don't make a big difference at all.

I can't agree at all with the second part. If you're melting cats, your tune is bad or you're using leaded fuel. If they're a restriction... well, they aren't. Shawn (cosmosM3) made 600hp through a 3" high flow cat. :cool
