View Full Version : TSX projectors in the E34?

Someone I know has TSX projectors real cheap. Thinking of picking them up. Anyone done the retrofit in an E34?

I was beside a Honda S2000 the other day and the lights blew me away how wide the spread is!!!!! TSX and S2000 use similar setups.

At this point I feel pretty confident about the retrofit just unsure whether trying to fit my H1 HID in the DS2 bulb space is a good idea.

I may end up having to get the DS2 bulbs and ballasts :(

I guess if I do, I will be selling my old setup.

After a few days of just looking at the headlights and trying to figure out the best way, I think I have got it.

I cut two sections out of the existing bucket. Just large enough so that I could change the rotation. One side I cut out has a place for two screws. The other side does not, so I will use body panel glue to cut the nice clean section I removed back in place. I will remove enough from the bottom to account for thickness of the TSX mounting midsection. This will allow the assembly on that side to be wedged into place.

Crazy part is the fact that the seam where the grey plastic starts to change angle and bevel (pic #3) is the perfect line to cut in order to fit the TSX projector lens snug in the chrome surround of the E34 euro's. Makes it perfect first cut

They fit snug as you see them suprisingly enough. I was able to turn them in all directions and they stay in place.

Here are some pics of the progress so far.

Are the smileys funtional without having the motors and the control in the dash to adjust them?

I made some brackets so that all 4 holes are fastened. Instead of my original plan to wedge this side in. They are slotted so I can make adjustments as well.

Now I just need longer bolts.

I would use some locking nuts, or locktite. That projector is going to loosen itself over time.

Also be sure to allow yourself to be able to do Rotation adjustment so your cutoffs are level with eachother. Nice work, I love retrofitting BMWs, great base to start with.

VERY bold cutting into those smileys! I want to see how these come out. Make sure to post some pics of the output.

I trimmed up the pieces I had removed and fitted them back with the cap. I will use plastic epoxy for the grey plastic and fill in the gaps from cutting out. I will then create a rubber gasket piece that will enclose the back. The black ring will attach that piece.

Hopefully that will do a pretty good job of sealing it up :)

I was trying to make sure everything is level using the H1's and the passenger ignitor just died

I swapped sides to be sure and yes..... it's no longer working.

I had a few problems with this one right when I got it so hopefully Umnitza will send me a new one ASAP.

My bulbs should be here tomorrow or Friday so hopefully I will get a new ignitor soon

here is a pic of my ONE TSX lights in. Can't wait to get my new igniter and get the other side setup.

Just the one is way brighter and wider than both of the factory projectors. The brightness is even throughout the spread.

Phillips 85122+ look pretty good. I want whiter though I think

Final product

The plastic weld 2 part epoxy isn't beautiful, but veru functional and never seen unless out of the car. The rest looks good.

That's so nice. Good work man. People amaze me with their knowledge and bravery to start cutting into their car like that, lol. Looks great though. That's a whole shitload of light. You get flashed by any oncoming drivers yet?

No. They are no different as if they were in the TSX. They are correctly aimed

So what did you end up doing to seal them? I'll be doing this retrofit to my e30 soon which uses the same headlights, but my plan is quite a bit different then the way you went about it.
